Not Really.

As you know, I'm on the side of 'realistic' women and empowerment and all the rest of that crap that keeps the bitches happy, but if you're honestly sitting there saying that Britney is fine for the MTV Crowd, then you're a fucking loon.

I don't think the MTV Crowd give a ratfuck about what you want sex symbols to look like.  I don't think the MTV Crowd give a flying ratfuck if all the stupid follow on bitches stick fucking fingers down their throats until they DIE.  All the care about is the product.

Point of this ?  Britney ain't the product anymore.  And pretending she is just reeks.

You want to talk about the rest of the stuff ?  It'll end up in politics or somewhere else where no-one will listen to you or care.

Sorry.

It wasn't the look -- although frankly that outfit was a bad choice for her current body shape. (There's styles she could have worn that would have popped boners everywhere, but that wasn't it). It was the tepid dancing, the bored facial expressions, and the choergraphy that made it look like she was barely able to do the limited dancing she was doing.

She moved like she was old, fat, and horribly out of shape. (I've seen enormously overweight girls with more energy than that -- she moved like she was afraid of breaking a hip).

I heard some stories that this was a last minute routine to replace something else, but damn -- it was the total lack of energy that killed it.

You see someone wearing clothes that are sabotaging their looks, acting like they're too old and out-of-shape to move, and your brain goes "fat". But 80% of it was the lack of energy and the stilted "I'm gonna break a hip iffun I move to fast" movements that did it. She could have pulled it off despite the outfit if she'd had some actual zest to her show, and some actual choeragraphy.

She looked depressed, tired, and burnt-out.

Yeah, Much Music used to play music, now not so much.

I can hear the dialogue ringing in my head (Get that, will you dear?)

Like those stated above... it's not that she's like fat or anything.  It's the combination of a lack of energy and being appropriate for her image.  Sex kitten she is not.

Maybe I want sex symbols to look like normal women instead of plastic bitches that create some kind of false sense of self in women and completly stupid expectations in men?

Nah, that'd make sense.

First of all I don't give any more of a shit about women's expectations of body image because of the media than I do about men's expectations of penis size because of porn.

Secondly, there were 3 points that went into my post. All of them come together to make the point. That outfit is not something you wear with a body like that onstage when you are supposedly a professional entertainer that puts an emphasis on your sexiness. Someone should have tapped her on the shoulder and gotten her to wear something more appropriate. Or told her to slim down if she wanted to wear that outfit. It just... doesn't look right on her. It really looks like it was made for a slimmer body.

I have a rule. If you weigh more than me, you're out. If you weigh less than I did in middle school, you're out. That's about a 40 pound zone most women seem to fall into nicely.

While I really don't see the problem with her figure/choice of clothes, that dance routine is really, really awful.  One of those "Faking It" programmes could have taken an untrained dancer and got them doing that routine far, far better in no time.

I think the impressive thing is the camera work: by the last third of the song the cameramen and producers were conspiring to place her behind other people in almost every wide shot.

I don't know. Did you see that pic in the Sun of her almost in tears? While it's true she did alot of this to herself, she is clearly having major issues and is suffering because of it.

I have absolutely no sympathy for singers that prance around on stage while lip-synching.  If you can't bring it to the house every night without the aid of a recording, you don't need to be on stage.

She certainly doesn't need to be on the stage. Frankly, she appears to be suffering from depression, some form of drug abuse (probably alcohol or sedatives) and certainly not ready to perform.

I also suspect she was pushed into it, and frankly she doesn't seem all that competent to make her own decisions in general -- much less now.

I have no sympathy for people who knowingly put themselves in bad positions.  Being spoiled is a state where an individual has an expectation that their actions cannot or should not be held against them, either by simple cause and effect or social consequence.  Anyone with that sort of attitude tends to get more contempt, less sympathy, from me.  I know enough people who are in very bad situations that are either not of their making, or a result of their lack of skill/ability.  Then there are the people who put themselves in a bad spot and are honestly trying to work their way out of it; I have some sympathy for their plight, if not their past.

Far as I can tell, she falles into the first category.  My sentiments follow accordingly.

I have no love or hate for Ms. Spears.  That performance was clearly not well rehearsed, at least on her part.  However that song was crap.  It was almost like it was too slow or something, as in too few beats per minute slow.  Resume bashing.

Well, Britney was already suffering from pretty poor public standing. I suspect that the pity will actually help her popularity in some small way. This is much worse for the image of MTV. I don't see anybody championing the network for televising this train wreck. I'm always more inclined to blame the networks when artists lip-sync too, since often the artists are required to either mime or sing over a backing track to even get TV coverage. Sometimes this results in superb errors - here is what happens when the recording is sent to air and not to the studio monitors:

I can't tell what's wrong there.

Edit: nevermind, youtube + blurry eyes. I was trying to analyze the music expecting them to sound off-key...

Why did they start singing during the second half? I am confused.

I was a bit confused as well, but fortunately google is your friend:
Quote from: wikipedia
In a well known incident, the band later performed a dubbed version of "Martha's Harbour" on the BBC1 television show Top Of The Pops, but, owing to a studio technical error, the taped vocals were broadcast without the band being able to hear them, resulting in the TV audience hearing the recorded version of the song, while the band members sat motionless on screen waiting for their cue to begin. By way of compensation the band were invited back on to the show the following week, and this time their performance passed off smoothly.
Really nice song.
