It was definitely AoD Ash, he was a giant douche in that movie.

I loved this.  I thought the scene with the cop was good genuine horror.  Ash was pretty much just how I expected him to be.  The sidekicks need some time to flesh themselves out but other than that it was great.

This was SO much fun, and SO much better than that shitty Evil Dead remake they did a year or two ago. It remembered that this thing is supposed to be fun, not just gory for the sake of gory.

As Campbell has said many times, the first one wasn't supposed to be funny, they just weren't very good at what they did.

The wife and I enjoyed this quite a bit, not enough to subscribe to Stars though.

I felt like that movie was a fair Update of Evil Dead I - which doesn't make it a worthy continuation of the franchise.  However, I would not mind seeing them bring her into the series during season 2...

I liked the remake a bit. I don't think it was gory for the sake of gory (I hate torture porn stuff), it was gory for the love of the craft of practical special effects in horror movies. In that respect I thought it was pretty well done.

The line about the crosses on the graves had me giggling for a while after the episode. Just perfect.

Still liking it. I like the characterization of Ash better now - maybe because he's in his element he seems more competent. Still an idiot in some ways, but more competent.

I love when they were summoning the demon and he was like "perfect - sounds like a nerd."

I can't tell - is the horrible dye job on Campbell's hair intentionally bad?

I would guess that it was whatever he regularly does to dye his hair, not particularly suited to high fidelity TV and lighting. There may have been some conversation at some point about how they have people who could do that better, and then someone or some combination of someones said

"Eh, leave it. Suits the character and the genre. We couldn't have been more authentic if we'd tried... and it would have cost a thousand times more."

"What if it needs to be redone and it doesn't match?"

"Then our audience will appreciate the inconsistency. Hell, in two years we'll be able to identify which season the fans at cons are dressing up as."

I've seen Bruce Campbell with salt and pepper hair that looked natural in a couple of things fairly recently (as Reagan in Fargo, for example), so I don't think that's the explanation.

It's very much meant to be in-character. He didn't dye for Burn Notice and there's several publicity photos of him with his natural salt-and-pepper out there.

Bruce Campbell can age gracefully, Ash 'J' Williams never will.

It is black as night except for little bits where the dye is missing.... yeah, it has to be intentional.  My bad for even asking.

It might be your bad for even noticing a man's dye job.

Most recent ep was the first one I wasn't into. Drug trip sequences just strike me as so lazy - all almost exactly the same.

I am halfway through binge-watching this. It's fucking excellent. I've always been a bit meh about the Evil Dead films. This is everything they should have been IMO.

Necro!  (heh)

Binging this now since I bought STARZ streaming for American Gods.  If anyone's on the fence about it, I recommend checking it out.  My fears that it'd turn out like "My Name is Bruce" were completely unfounded.

RIP:

It was not as good as I'd hoped, but I'm glad we had a chance to revisit Ash.

Note that Campbell has said that this is it for Ash - when the series ends, the character ends.  I hope they get a way to wrap up everything neatly in some form, but it doesn't
sound like it will be movie/tv.  In theory, the series finale wraps up most of it.

The current season has been feeling like it's winding up to some sort of big conclusion (much like a D&D campaign, once the characters gain the ability to transcend death you gotta start thinking about how to wrap it up or it's just gonna get boring) so I'm glad they're planning for the end and aren't going to have either a long drawn out decline or an abrupt unsatisfying demise.

Knew as soon as Brandy was alone in the house holding a shotgun that we were setting her up for a passing of the torch.  Loved it.

R.I.P. Ash Williams

The horror in this show puts most modern movies to shame, mixed with inventive slapstick and joyful over the top gore, I loved every moment.  I wish the show could go on forever, that this show couldn't rate well is a fucking tragedy

Bruce has said "done" before.  You never know....  I would like to have seen where they went in Season 4 given that the finale was planned out before they knew they were not coming back.  I'm betting, however, all we get is a comic continuation.
