Has Marvel Heroes changed much since last summer? I installed it after a friend was playing it a lot and I have to say I didn't last two hours before I thought "Why am I even bothering ti play this instead of Diablo 3?"  The controls felt a little strange, the movement was floaty, the combat was just not as good.  Unless you just love marvel to the point of that making the difference, I can't think of a single thing about Marvel Heroes that would draw someone away from a game like D3.

There are a lot of differences, but I suspect it'll still not be for you.

When you say 'a game like D3' you're suggesting superiority there.  Which is just your opinion (Yeah, and Schilds, before he leaps in again).  D3 fucked a lot of people off initially and, frankly, the character building is STILL woefully inadequate.

Characterization is by far the weakest point of D3, but it's strongest point so far currently is that almost every build works to have fun. You don't have to min-max to do greater rifts.

How these games FEEL is probably the most important thing to me and that is what Diablo 3 has gotten right.  When you're talking about a point and click APRG, that base moment to moment gameplay is very important, and Marvel Heroes just wasn't doing it for me.

Yeah, you made that clear.  Also, given it's you, it's not a great surprise.  It's like finding out jdsugden likes Marvel Shit.

Marvel Heroes feels like a well-animated flash game.

I'm the reverse. If it's at all superhero themed, I can't play it. No appeal.

These types of games are loot machines with clicky clicky. The veneer is very important.

I actually really enjoyed Marvel Heroes when I played it because it is probably the best game for Altaholics.

That said, not changing the models based on loot made me sad.  But seriously, you can roll 100 alts and every char plays mostly different.

That said, I want 2.3 badly.

So i jumped into the ptr last night.

Started at t7 with my barb, took about 5 minutes to get Kanai's Cube. Once i had that I started to get mats for the cube.
You collect these by doing bounties. I had done the first 4 act's bounties when i got booted. grr.

As far as the cube goes, it gives a bit more stuff to collect and farm, but with being able to upgrade items, swap one set piece for another etc I really think they might be making the game too easy.

I'm worried that people with get burnt out even faster as they will be able to max out so quickly now.

Well the point is to max out in the ladder of a season now. Which is really a moving target.

When I say max out I meant gear. It feels like they are just getting closer and closer to giving people the best gear straight out of the box.

If there is no effort to gear up or level up, there is no sense of reward.

He's actually right about this though. If you make gear too easy in a game where the entire purpose is to beat up hordes of demons so you can get more gear, then you sort of remove the reason to beat up more demons.

The slot machine factor of D3 is it's biggest strength, you don't want to take that away.

I agree, however, are you picking what you want to transmogrify stuff into or is it still a slot machine?

The way it works for set items is that it will convert a single set item into another set item for the same set, but it will not be the same type (ie gloves > gloves).

So if you have 2 focuses you transmogrify one and you are guaranteed to get the Restraint. Same thing for Bul-katho's etc

It will just make set farming much faster. Also, if you have a RORG, now you can just take the -1 set piece power and apply it directly to the account and then it can be used for all of your characters.

They wouldn't want you to have to work for a ring for each character would they?

I sort of feel like if I went through the RoRG grind once, I shouldn't have to ever do it again.  So bad example.   awesome, for real

Oh thank God. I have only ever managed to get one RORG. I've been farming Act 1 forever and never got another.

Ouch - I have 5 of them on season alts - I think every third cache was dropping them.

RORG was what led to me stopping playing D3 completely, after weeks of trying, and failing, to get one for an alt. This was a long time ago, and I've never gone back since.

Took me weeks of trying to get one.  I probably opened several hundred caches.

It tooks me months to get my first RORG. Now I seem to be able to get them daily. I just get a bunch of caches from lower Torment difficulties and then open them in Torment 6. No idea if that actually matters, but when I started doing that.. about every 3rd or 4th cache got me a ring.

The Unity rings are what I could never find.

The Cache's level is determined when you get it. so it shouldn't have mattered.

I'll admit the 1st one was a pain, but once you can do t6, which isn't that hard you get a 100% legendary drop rate in the cache. Of course there are 3 different legendaries for the act 1 bounties but at T6 you get a 1 in 3 chance of getting a RORG. If you jumped into a multiplayer game you could clear act one in ~5 minutes.

Hell if you couldn't do t6, you could always leech.

**Note I realize that not everyone is at T6 and for those that are not it is more difficult. I'm really just discussing end game stuff.

As for unity, yeah i found my 1st 2 pretty quick and then only 1 more has ever dropped for me.

Also, keep in mind that that is the new drop rate.  When that ring first came out it was a HUGE pain in the ass to farm one.  These days it is much MUCH easier.

I, admittedly, have no idea how the rules for caches work. All I know is my own experience; over three months I tried to get a RORG and failed (doing a minimum of 4 caches a day on Torment 4 -- the highest I could farm it at any decent rate). I got fed up, read somewhere that it might help to just open them on Torment 6, so I farmed a dozen caches on Torment 1, went to Torment 6 and opened them all. I got 4 RORGs. I've gotten another 7 or so for other characters by doing the same thing. Does it help? To me it seems to. Or, the RNG likes me to think it does. Either way.. I can get RORGs now, so I'm good with either.

I still can't farm Torment 6, either, at least not quickly enough to be worth it (my monk, my most geared character, simply isn't geared well enough for it; or I suck.. most likely a combination of both), but I'm fairly casual about Diablo 3 now (and I've always played it solo); I play it now and then so the changes mentioned by others about things getting easier to get set items? Fantastic, imo.

I played on the ptr some to get a feel for the changes. That droprate buff needs to be a permanent thing on the live servers. Most fun I have ever had with D3.

On the PTR only, there is a 2000 percent buff to legendary/set droprates.

Eh, that sounds like a bit much. You'd max out every character in a day.  That's fine for testing purposes, but the live drop rate has seemed pretty good to me during the last few seasons.

I disagree, it needs to rain drops in the regular game to be fun.

I wasn't exaggerating when I think I could max out every character I had in a day with literally 20 times more loot drops.  It might be fun for that one day, just for the novelty value I guess.
