Well, well isn't this interesting! http://www.themis-group.com/view_news.phtml?id=28Themis Group today announced that it has hired Jerry Godwin, the former customer service manager for Anarchy Online and head of Funcom’s US office, to fill the position of Customer Service Manager. Also joining the Themis Group is Joe Blancato of Waterthread.org fame. I guess we finally know the real reason behind the Waterthread move. I don't know if it is a good idea to skip college and take a job at age 19 though. Sure he is in the industry now, but he has nothing to fall back on. I can honestly say I wish I had went back to college after flunking out instead of going to work. I hope it goes well for him.

Yeah, read this at corpnews. What exactly is Joe doing there? Fielding CS calls? The PR doesn't say.

Well, best of luck to Joe. I know he wanted an "in" and I guess this kinda fits the bill. I don't really have a lot of respect for Themis as an entity, but /shrug at least the crowd of people he'll be around is a good one.
Can we now get an additional overlord from the old regime? I'm a tad scared with just schild at the helm. I fear a future where this site is just me, wayabvpar, Mediocre, Margalis, Madman and UT_Delt posting poker hands.
Anyhow, good luck with the job, Joe.

Schild was never at the helm. Soulflame has veto power over everything I do. And I haven't done much. This misconception has gotten annoying. We're looking into getting another few writers and maybe another mod.
If you want to write for us shoot me an email.

Congrats Joe. I mean that in all sincerity, I'm glad you've found an in and can do what you enjoy. That is the thing. We all thought he was bored with MMOG's. As someone on the Corp said, maybe that is a requirement to get in the industry now.

Bored with playing them and writing about them. That sounds like perfect material to be working on them.
It's a job, something which is altogether difficult to find in this economy, especially when you are talking about the gaming industry. Hats off.
Just watch out when Savant says he needs a 'head polish.'

Anyhow, good luck with the job, Joe. Less of an "in," more of a "paying for school and giving me a place to sleep." Thanks for the well wishes.

Just watch out when Savant says he needs a 'head polish.' If I was bored of playing and writing about MMOG's, then I certainly wouldn't want to work on them. I am sure it is interesting, but if you are bored with one aspect of something then sooner or later you will become bored with all aspects of it. Yes it is a job, but Joe is 19. He would probably be best served by getting a degree in college and THEN trying to get into the industry if he decides it is still something he wants to do. Even though I am sure it will be a good experience, if and when it comes to an end then he is going to have a problem because he doesn't have a degree. Trust me on this, I know because I don't have a degree in anything. I know he is going to still go to school, but I couldn't do that. I couldn't balance work and school at the same time. Hopefully he can.

The conspiracy theories fly on ...other sites. Apparently, Themis is now in "indirect control" of Waterthread.

The conspiracy theories fly on ...other sites. Apparently, Themis is now in "indirect control" of Waterthread. Technically, nobody "controls" waterthread, other than Joe owning the domain......because this isn't waterthread anymore. You type in the waterthread.org URL, and you get F13.net and a banner-sized pic of Shanghai Knights or something equally insipid. It's time to drop the facade and just call a pig a pig. I don't know what's scarier, though...the thought of Themis in control of this site, or schild, Soulflame, and Snowspinner. Plus, I don't see why Joe has to disassociate himself from F13 with this position. This is only Themis CS, it's not like it's Lum joining Mythic shortly before DAOC was released...yknow, becauseMythic was a game provider, Lum actually wrote stuff, was critical of the industry, and was relevant to thousands of potential subscribers. Joe is little more than a figurehead at this point, Haemish is as close to relevant as we have left here. Bring the noise. Cheers............

Savant has to approve every post on this forum. Using his amazing majick powers granted through demon worship, you do not notice any time delay, as he sees your posts in the future and automagically approves them prior to you even making them.
So amazing you don't even notice.

Snow doesn't control anything, except the content he generates. Schild is in charge of the (currently nonexistant) business side, site design, other infrastructure type stuff. I'm in charge of the forums, which is something (I think) I am rather good at. I also hold some sway with Schild on infrastructure, mods, etc, and can override any decision he comes to on the forums.
Man, you people get your panties in a wad over the most minor idiocies.

This didn't work to well for p2p and it doesn't look to be working too well here by the simple fact that everyone is gone.

I don't post enough to care anymore either way but it's pretty obvious where most of the conversation has moved to.

I don't post enough to care anymore either way but it's pretty obvious where most of the conversation has moved to. Whereis that? IRC?? The Vault?? 1-900 numbers?? Over at Corp we've got a few conversations going other than F13....but neither site is as active as WTO was in it's final few weeks. We end up subdividing the community every couple of years, and we lose people every time. I said the same thing on Corp....right now, F13 is the New Coke, and Corp is Pepsi. People liked Coke Classic, and they are a bit annoyed at the guys who decided to change the formula. We had a nice melting pot here, where a lot of people with disparate opinions co-existed and made for intelligent, engaging, and entertaining conversation. Until one site or another gets that back, consider me peeved at the fucktardery of the whole situation. Bring the noise. Cheers.............

I hate Soulflame because he deleted my tiny jebus penis avatar.
I hate schild because he didn't warn me strongly enough about Horizons and Lineage 2.
I hate Snow because someone told me he's a furry.
It was a very long grind but I was on the verge of liking Joe for becoming one of those jobless anarchists like me, but now I hate him again.
Women have a natural inclination towards nesting so, I suppose, I hate you all in a motherly, nurturing way. Gratz to you, Joe, and here's to hoping you get this work nonsense out of your system soon. My only advice to you is marry well... it's the fastest way of getting back to the business of loafing around.

Although I will concede its a notch up from being a CSR flunkie for 10/hr(How exactly is that going to pay for school?). anarch..

Well, that's the type of crap job I'm stuck at while working towards my degree, and my employer (and most around here) pay school tuition on top of hourly wages.

That's you. It can be boring to talk about the same old problems ad inifinitum without having any real influence over anything. I would love to on a MMORPG *because* I know they have a lot of problems.

In fact, I feel a little sorry for him now that I know he is going to be a CS rep because he is going to have to deal with the worst in people. I hope it doesn't burn him out for good because CS is a dirty thankless job that usually comes with a lot of stress.

Congrats to Joe. From what I understand Savant can crush us all like little twigs, so any thoughts of opression are irrelevant since we are all weaklings compared to him. And who cares what Corp thinks? Its just a long running community splitting itself into smaller groups of cranky. The halycon days of Lum are like over sadly. But the crappy games continue.

So, really, I'd say the sites are doing comparably well. Let me guess. That was taken from after WT.o revived, but before it merged with f13? You should know this, but it was much more active pre-dying.

I know you meant that in the kindest way possible, so I'll not take offense. Anyway, I worked for years in a job much more dirty and seedy than prostitution... artist management. Please, please... all you fledgling music industry wannabes... the only people more nasty and selfish than rock icons are their personal managers. It's a fact. I'm a much sweeter person now.
