Did you like Far Cry 3?  Did you like killing bull sharks with jet skis for their skin?  This is like that, but more so.

Get it.  Get it now.

To be honest, pretty shitty.

This isn't the gaming equivalent of fine dining.  It's about chaos and random bear attacks.  It's not a revolutionary change to Far Cry 3.  It's more of the same in an environment I like more, and that's fine by me.

Ok, so here's where I have no hesitation being a hater. Folks who said "Far Cry 3 is like Skyrim with guns, it's great", are folks who should turn in their comparison-making cards for good. First because of the dumb gating--you have to advance the plot to get to new areas. Not open world, not at all. Second and more importantly because I'd rather have the rather vanilla personalities of NPCs and the absent personality of your own avatar if the alternative is playing a game with Jason Fucking Brody as my character and the absolutely cretinous people around him. I can't get into all the good stuff in FC3 if I have to play a dumb spoiled white kid rescuing other dumb spoiled white kids from stereotypical natives/saving stereotypical natives with stereotypical native priestess thrown in at the end in a dumb plot twist etcetera. I especially hated it when the dude who wrote FC3 claimed that all the bad writing and stereotypes were some sort of clever postmodern-ironic critique of bad writing and stereotypes.

I enjoyed FC3 on the first island; when I had to advance the story to get to the second one I kind of lost interest, but the ride was fun until then. Waiting for Steam sale for this one.

+1 rendakor.  i liked fc3 for what it was.  I thought all the alice in wonderland parallels were wanky.

Hahahah. Raging at forgettable story and douchey characters in videogames. Funny.  why so serious?

There's certainly plenty to go around. For some reason these guys really got to me. I think it's because the itch the game promises to scratch is open world, and when I want to scratch that itch, I don't want to be saddled with content gates and actively awful characters. I want to go where I want and do mostly what I want, and when NPCs are reacting to me, I either want to be Blandy McBland whose only personality is the stuff I've done in-game or I want the characterization to vault over a fairly high hurdle of quality (John Marston, say).

I bought FC3 on sale after not playing any of the previous games. I go about 6 hours into the game and into the third area of quests, when I asked myself if this was fun at all. Turns out no.

The collecting was stupid and haphazard, the weapons were mostly lame, and I ended up role-playing a RAMBO type character with a bow and exploding arrows. The stealth mechanics were a fucking joke, and I suck at stealth. Even I could sneak up on shit since the game was completely unaware of what you were doing, while also exactly somehow pinpointing one arrow in the foliage when you miss. Weird. Combat didn't grab me like in other games.

But deep down with all the animals and the respawns and the constant juggling of inventory garbage, I couldn't get into it long term. I hated my character, I hated the people in the game, and I thought the enemy guy was the only dude who made any sense because at least he was nuts. I can get behind nutso guy in a game. I can't get behind loser frat boy I keep hoping gets shot.

Also vehicles? Everything drives like it's on ice, and accelerates to infinity and beyond. I was driving around like a 13 year old who found Dad's keys to the Mustang.

I'd go back and do more FC3 and even move on to FC4 if I could have a character who was just a mostly silent Rambo-type uberkiller. They could drop 95% of the cutscenes and just say, "You're fighting this nut who has a bunch of pirates working for him and by the way can you help out the locals kthnx". Then it's fun. But being forced to deal with a character and plot that makes me wish I could just shoot myself a billion times, at some point I couldn't take it any more.

One thing I really like about FC4 that I've read is that the bad guys retake outposts. That would add a lot to the basic structure of gameplay.

Respawning orcs in Farcry 2 is pretty much my biggest complaint.
Also, skin 3 crocs to make bigger wallet. Laffo.
If they remove all this pretense of crafting and just let us go wild like Just Cause 2, it'd be a much better game.

But unfortunately this is what the mainstream thinks make a good single player game:

I caught wind of a Just Cause 3 with a date of 31 Dec 2015, which of course means sometime in 2016 but I'm still happy about that.

It's incredibly game-ey and not realistic, but it worked for me in FC3, giving me a reason to go explore certain areas and hunt certain mobs. needing to find schematics (not part of FC3) seems a shitty move, though.

Wow I can't even get this pig to launch. Lots of threads on the forums saying you need to unplug usb devices like gaming devices and shutdown the software. Nope, sorry, not going to play your shitty game unless I can use my G13 and Deathadder (that work flawlessly with every other game I've played). Man I'd be pissed if paid for this but it came free with video card. But looks like my new video card purchase wasn't a deal after all... Eh, maybe they'll patch it some day, back to Divinity I guess.

It came free-ish bundled with the PS4 I just got my Wife for Christmas. I'll give it a go sometime soon(ish). I'll probably pick it up for PC in the same way that I got FC3 - via Steam sale a year on, and with all the DLC and shit thrown in.

It is a good game so far.  No rescuing of the brat pack.

It is pretty focused on the revolution themes of FC2.

I've been lurking.  Family, 4 kids, own a business now.  My gaming time is pretty limited, but I manage to sneak some in.  I've pretty much given up on any multiplayer.  If it can't be paused and minimized I ain't playing it!

This game has its quirks, but is enjoyable. Do not buy it for the Co Op, though.

It's fun but the Campaign missions are disabled in Co Op which makes Co Op mode basically useless because there is no way to unlock half the map.

Finally gave up DA3. Just not into it, so picked this up. This I'm loving. Basically FC3 with a grappling hook and that's totally fine by me. Bad guy has some funny moments but I don't play FCs for the story. Favorite weapon is still the bow, though the exploding tip seems a bit toned down this round.

Oh and I should add: graphics are phenomenal. Playing at ultra and not even the highest end PC. It's smooth as silk, it doesn't appear to have any bugs at all, and I think they even nailed the perennial problem I've had with Ubi games not liking all four CPUs.

I'd give this the apparently now needed "AAA was playable right away" award. Only other game like that was Shadows of Mordor.

Fucking video games have circled right back to 2002 MMOs when just launching something people could log into was worth applause  tongue
