Name of the Rose was a fucking amazing book. Purest melding of an entertaining narrative, a postmodern ironic redo, and a work of high literary theory that I can think of. Fun and clever. Naturally of course the movie of it stunk to high heaven.

I know, right?  The Name of the Rose was an awesome movie!

ELP lost it's vowel.  Evidently Keith Emerson killed himself.  What's up, rock music?  :(

I'm pretty sad at this: my uncle introduced me to prog when I was 10 or 11 with ELP's brilliant Works double album, and I still have a soft spot for them.

Paul Daniels is kaput.  The lovely Debbie McGee is back on the market.  You'll like that, but not a lot.

Someone else died too, I forget.  Probably quite a few people, come to that.

Oh yeah it was Sylvia Anderson.  Some would say "voice of Lady Penelope," but I am rather obtusely going to point to her as "the producer of series one of Space 1999 and production assistant of Torchy The Battery Boy".

Larry Drake passed away today.  He was in L.A. Law and won two Emmys for his role.  I also remember him playing the villain in Darkman with Liam Neeson.

Paul Daniels, who I suspect nobody outside of the UK will have heard of, has died. He will be missed by absolutely nobody, he was a hateful little cunt and a shit magician.

I couldn't bear him to be honest, but all the outspoken, reactionary stuff he spouted was pretty much him being a moderately-typical old person with nobody around to say "now now Paul, why don't you just leave the refugees to get on with it and eat your nice peas, instead?"

Come to think of it, fuck knows how long the brain tumour was in there pressing on bits of his head that stop you saying insensitive stuff about sex abuse victims, too.

Former Toronto Mayor, Rob Ford passed away. Kind of a celebrity after all the crazy news stories and talk show host one-liners.

I'm astonished that he was only 46. I seriously thought he was in his fifties at least.

I'm only a few years younger than he was but I always thought he was in his early 50's.  I'm no GQ cover model but there's no way I'll look that bad and that old when I'm 46 in a few years.  Cocaine, it's a helluva drug.

He's a bit of an acquired taste. Sorta like Larry David.

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

Very true. I watched his show when I was a kid. Mother let me choose like two more adult shows to watch and this was one. Cheers was the other.
