Anyone else watch the first episode for this? 2% of the population disappears and the show basically picks up three years later after the event. By the preview for the next episode looks like it might get a bit supernatural too. I thought it was kind of weird so far but really good. Looking forward to more.

The gf and I watched it, hoping for it to hook us, but alas it just didn't. The best part was when she said 'That looks like a low-rent Liv Tyler!'

It wasn't awful, just didn't seem like it was going anywhere in particular.

Ya I admit that's a good complaint of it, not really seeming to go anywhere. I still really enjoyed it though and I'm hoping since it's only the first episode it'll start going somewhere in the next couple. I had the same though about Liv Tyler and had to look up the cast to see who it was only to find out it was in fact her.

Created by Damon Linderloff.

Destined to spend the entire season flashing back to people's various daddy issues, hanging a giant sloppy mystery out there, then provide answers for fuckall.

NOt hooked here either, and a bit disappointed with the attempted drama ... but I'm going to give it a few weeks.

The book was wonderful, was pretty sure Lindloff would fuck it up though.

Nobody should watch this who is expecting a concrete answer. The book doesn't have one either. The only thing you can be sure of is that it's not the premillennialist version of the Rapture, for reasons clearly stated in the 1st episode.

There's a Michael Tolkin film called (unsurprisingly) "The Rapture" that is much less ambiguous about the ultimate cause of things but has a lot of the same storytelling ambitions as this series. Worth a see.

I don't think an 'answer' would be necessary for a good show.  This show seems to be about people dealing with an unexpected tragedy.  I could see a show like this going on for 10 years and not giving answers...

However, it would need good writing, good direction, storylines that made sense and a quality tone to be a good show - and it has none of those in the pilot.

2020 will be the year I gave up all hope.

So. This guy's name didn't ring any bells so I looked up his body of work. It's pretty much a list of shit that takes itself way too seriously.

Anyway, the only thing that could make this worth watching is nudity. How much is in the first episode?

This is why I didn't even bother with the show. That and I honestly thought it was a version of those Left Behind books/movies. But yeah, this writer has some good ideas but never knows how to finish them and if he does, it's massively disappointing. Prometheus, I'm looking at you...

And to think because of that movie, Del Toro's At the Mountains of Madness was cancelled. Because this shitnugget and Ridley Scott took the story and plugged in names and concepts from the Alien franchises.

I kind of liked the pilot.  undecided

I don't think my wife and I will be watching it, however, at least not together.  It's way too depressing, and I think the awfulness is just going to beyond a scale that she can tolerate.  She didn't like the dog killing, and I think that's about as tame as some of this shit is going to get.

Fair warning. It's Lindeloff. It's very likely to go nowhere.

I watched about half of the pilot and lost interest. It seems like they skipped the best bits of the premise: the immediate chaos of a bunch of people vanishing that the show only touched on for a single scene. After that I guess everyone got depressed, some dude shot a dog, the girl's in a cult where they all smoke but don't talk, swamp poop. If it wasn't Lindelof I might have pushed myself a bit further, but the premise sounds more interesting than the first (half of the first) episode actually was.

A former coworker is now writing for WB. I've given him instructions to kill Lindeloff on sight.

I'm at episode 5: I think this is definitely the most depressing show I've ever seen, and surely among the weirdest.

On the other hand, Sarah Margaret Qualley (Andie McDowell's daughter) is incredibly beautiful. WOW  Heart Heart Heart

The second to last episode of the season was an entire flashback episode.  Ohhhhh, I see.  It was very well done, but an episode that easily could have been inserted anywhere into the season.  If you're only rolling out 10-11 episodes a season, I don't feel you have the room for this kind of sidebar.  However, this one was somewhat necessary to understand the entire fucked up pysche of the Garvey family and gave some decent insight into Nora Durst and the rest of the town.

This is really going nowhere and bringing up more questions than answering, but it's fascinating.  It's like watching a shaken ant farm.  It is possibly the most dark and depressing show I've ever seen.

This season feels like it's just ending out of the blue.  There's no reasonable endpoint that I see built up to, unless it's the highly predictable thing they set up 2 episodes ago.

Arise!

Anyone watching this?  The acting continues to be spectacular in this the last season.  This continues to be a show that I makes me physically ill to watch (but in a good way).

I'm still watching this, loving it. Grebo, I think you may have missed the point of this show a bit. The 'plot' really isn't what it's about, it's about how desperation for explanation in a harsh and confusing world affects people. I would strongly suspect that there will be no resolution to this show, no story that wraps up neatly, no explanation for anything whatsoever, probably not much that makes sense beyond "people are fucked up yo".

Also, Lindsay Duncan is a hell of an actress.

Edit: Just had a browse back through this thread. Angry.bob really was an utter cunt in every single thread he posted in, wasn't he?

This finished last night. I also watched my first episodes of it. The second to last and last episodes of the show (I've read spoilers of previous seasons so had a clue of what was going on. I'm weird like that)

It was really gooD. Felt emotionally invested in the last episode.

This actually ended rather decently, IMO. Good series in totality, although their were some weird variations in tone and pacing.

Last season really nailed what the show actually was. Some might be disappointed, but the show was never about what they wanted it to be:

Anybody got a link to a summary of the entire plot of the series?  My googling is only giving me episode by episode shit, or people discussing the ending.  After Lost I vowed never to give Linderloff a chance ever again.  I'll just go ahead and spend a few minutes reading how it wo me out instead.

I watched the last episode of the second season.  I recovered.  It was good.

I'll watch the 3rd season happily now.
