Not so much a surprise as the first film, but once again quite good. Some lovely visual scenes with Hiccup and a surprise character in the middle of the film.
Villain is sort of generic and the pacing of the whole thing feels a bit off. Climax is quite good though.

Never have I seen a movie where the trailer spoils something so badly. If it's not too late, do not watch the trailer.
Looking back, it's got a big pacing problem at the end of the 2nd act, much like getting a clutch gear change wrong and trying to work out what gear the films supposed to be in. They were trying for a Empire Strikes Back middle movie, but because it has to end on a happy note, the movie dosn't work nearly as well as the first one.
Worth seeing it just for the Dragons. The new not-really-bad-sorta-scoundrel character needed more focus I think, and the villain more time to demonstrate why he became what he did.
I really liked the Dad's reaction to the trailer reveal, and the resulting song.
There's going to be 2 things in the next movie I can predict, maybe 3: .

I didn't much care for the movie, but the children did like it.

Totally agree on the whole "Major movie spoiler in the trailer thing". I mean, that reveal is SOOOOO much less epic when you know it is coming. Also agree on the "WTF Fathersday release" thing, all things considered. There's going to be 2 things in the next movie I can predict, maybe 3:

This got beaten by 22 Jump Street at the box office (60 vs. 50 million). I thought that was *very* interesting.

I was going to go see X-men, but it was sold out, so we saw this. In a strange turn of events I ended up sitting three seats away from WayAbvPar.
I thought the first one was better.

Yep. We were there for X-Men as well. Bummed we didn't get to see that, but this was decent. My son enjoyed it, and it had some fun parts. Nothing I would rush out to see in theatres unless you hate money and want to see it in 3D (is it out in 3D? I don't even know).

Comstar, thanks for the advice to avoid the trailer. I followed it, and am glad I did 'cause yeah, that spoiled the shit out of some important details.

I like that half the people who want to see this movie are young adults

Elena and I loved this. They didn't release a 'Big' trailer over here as far as I can see, but the story mirrored some of the books, so Elena knew what was coming before I did. Except for the Fathers Day Gift. Many tears. Much Sadness. Wow. I then had to promise I would keep away from her pet Toothless toy 'just in case'.

Took the boys to this on the weekend and they loved it for the most part. Slowed down in the middle a bit and they got antsy, but overall was a hit in my household.

Have you tried the internet? It's made out of millions of people missing the point of everything and then getting angry about it

Took my youngest Lauren (6) to this. She loved it. Then I copped shit from her older siblings (4x 18+ ) who wanted to go see it :)

Well, if the youngest wouldn't mind seeing it again you can make an outing of it...
