Didn't see a thread for discussing this, but I've seen it discussed in a couple of places, so I thought I would make a thread for it. There has been lots of criticism saying that this is a rip off of the Daily Show. I really don't care about that because this show is hilarious. I wish John Oliver had his own show long ago.

He's doing basically the same thing as Colbert did, except instead of pretending to be a Republican, he's pretending to be British.  I like this show.

Pom Wonderful wrote him a letter thanking him for mentioning their product on his show.

This is on HBO, right?  Is there any way to watch it other than subscribing to HBO?  That doesn't involve torrenting?

The Pom Wonderful bit had me in fucking tears. I don't give a shit if it's a rip of the best part of the Daily Show and Colbert Report, so long as it's funny. And it's goddamn funny.

What does your wife care if she gets free HBO out of the deal?  She gets TV and someone else has to put up with you for a while.  Win-win!

Serious answer:  The entire first episode and bits of the second are available on the show's Youtube channel.  Follow the link I posted earlier.

Finally caught the first ep of this. Loved it. A bit forced and uneven at first, but it found its groove pretty quickly. I love me some JO and he delivered.

I think this is the safest prediction ever...

Net neutrality is going to die a horrible death and the internet is going to get vastly more shitty for everyone involved.

Every rant of his so far has been.

But the finale was the best part of the show.

I couldn't believe that company is real so I googled it. I was wondering why anyone would actually use something that looked so labor intensive but they have a method that make salmon voluntarily enter the cannon. Pretty smart.

Wow. That's a lot of clout. Game of Thrones money.

But seriously, it's impressive.  I'm willing to bet Oliver has a lot of fans in the biz for being possibly the most informative source of news on tv right now.

At least one of his pieces was covered by Frontline a couple years ago so there are sources of in depth stuff out there.

Don't get me wrong, I love the show and I am sure he has more viewers than PBS does, but if you want in depth stories that are not a thirty second commercial level there are other options.
