So with Stephen Colbert replacing Letterman, that pretty much spells the end of the Colbert Report at the end of the year it would seem.  He's said he won't be bringing the satirical right-wing character he plays on the Report with him so that's going to leave quite a void behind.

Over and out.

The report has been around for what, 10 years now? It had a great run and I don't even think I'd want it going on forever.

That's one of the few things that might get me to watch a late night talk show. I probably won't but I do like Colbert. Not sure how he'll do playing it "straight."

This is very sad news.  I enjoy the Colbert Report.  I doubt I'd watch the late night show (or whatever it's called.)

FWIW, the woman that started that didn't really want Colbert cancelled. She just wanted to start a dialogue about racism and the co-opting thereof. Of course, not all of the people that jumped on the bandwagon got that.

Tuned in, immediately get to watch cringey Ubisoft talking head offering her deepest sympathies to the families impacted by the Orlando shooting while flanked by a man in a giraffe suit and some sort of "horrifically garish neon costumes through the ages" exhibit or something.  We need to stop this fucking planet right now and sort some shit out. -Kail

She was being massively mocked yesterday on twitter.

There was a really long interview with Colbert I caught on NPR. I think it's the only time I've heard him completely out of character and based on that, I think he'll be a big surprise to people as a general talk show host. I suspect that unless Comedy owns it, they'll break out the Report character from time to time as a sketch though.

Looking forward to Colbert trying some broader comedy. Time to outgrow this narrow left wing political satire gimmick. I think he will do well.

I might actually the give the show a shot - don't care for any of the current "Late Night" offerings.

This is perfect.  Now they can make the Daily Show an hour long and wtfpwn all of the late-night network shows in one foul swoop.  At least, if I was CC that's precisely what I'd do.

So... is he going to do the Late Show as himself or as the character he plays in the Colbert Report?  Imagine the shock on many a Republican face when they realize that Colbert Report was satire.

I honestly have no idea what they're going to do (obv) but I would think they'd want to put something completely different in it's place (go back to shit shows like crank yankers) because honestly anything news-typey is going to be unfairly compared to Colbert.  Let Colbert fade a bit in peoples' minds and then slide another Daily Show graduate in the slot down the road.

If he's playing it "straight", will he be reverting to "Col - bert" instead of the now famous pronunciation "Col - bare"?

It's been col-bare ever since the daily show which was years before the report so doubtful it will change now.  It's a stage name as much as Charlie Sheen is not Charlie Estevez.

Carlos Irwin Estevez.

Yeah, at this point Steven Col-bare is his brand, and there's no point in being Stephen Colbert except in private.  Steven Col-bare is worth millions.

The pronunciation has never struck me as odd, but then I'm from Louisiana where the name Hebert (pronounced "a bear") is very common.  But yeah, he definitely used that pronunciation back on TDS for nearly a decade (remember he started at TDS before Stewart did).

Really I never liked Colbert Report that much compared to TDS and I hope Comedy Central doesn't rush to replace it with something similar too fast.

The joke was never how he pronounced his name, but that he would pronounce "Report" the same way.

Yes, just think of Louis XIV's finance minister, Jean-Baptiste Colbert, the guy who 'invented' mercantilism.

The joke was never how he pronounced his name, but that he would pronounce "Report" the same way.

And the Sport Report segment!  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?
