No Man's Sky is 60% off. I know people were underwhelmed at launch, but is it worth giving it a crack now?

Elite: Dangerous is also 47% off at Humble if you want to explore the galaxy.

Christ that's tempting for anyone with a VR set.  I think finally arriving at a star and looking out the cockpit at it in E:D VR is one of my top ten gaming moments.

Same.  Just settling into orbit for a bit, you can almost feel the heat coming off the thing.  Then speed up and break out of orbit, look back over your shoulder through the cockpit and watch it shrink as you engage your ftl drive....damn.

Basically all Steam sales are for me now is the time I snag Rocksmith tunes that have been sitting on my wishlist until they go on sale. I got some great (personalized to account, sorry) vouchers from GMG and went through the list and own everything I'd be interested in playing, so ehhh.

Into Chapter 3 of Elex with RDR on deck, Madden franchise mode and new Rocksmith tunes...if I do run out of gaming this winter, I'll just take another hit of minecraft...

Sale time is when I prune my wishlist. If I won't buy a game even on sale, it needs to get deleted.

This time, I'm looking hard at Subnautica, No Man's Sky (again!) and Civ VI.

Anyone know why 1/2 the titles i have installed did a 512 byte update today?  Something to do with the sale?

FYI, Sanctum 2 is free for a limited time at the Humble Bundle store.  Most of the games they've given away for free have a time limit on the keys so as soon as you get it, add the game to your Steam library asap.

Thinking of getting No Man's Sky now that it's on sale.  Is it much better than it was at release and is it worth the roughly $25 sale price?

It is better now.  Bases with NPCs and vehicles and a string of quests really helped.  But when they ran out I stopped.

Do the quests that one gets at a space station run out? I was hoping to be able to use them for gaining rep with the factions.

A-hem.  I got one of those Steam Links for a fiver just to see if it'll work on the big tv for my sister.  It came the day before yesterday.  Then another one came yesterday.  Today I wait with bated breath.  Maybe I'll open my very own Steam Link Shop on Etsy.

I let them know and they sent me an email that they don't want it back.  That's not a very reassuring testament to it's usefulness.

Hm, I wonder if it would work with my tv...could send games into my studio, where I have a second tv set up. Should've thought of that while they were on sale!

Darkwood is on sale for a tenner.  Everyone is raving about the atmosphere and some say they can only play for short times because they're pussies it's so scary.  What a bunch of pussies girly girls emotionally sensitive people!  Anyway, have you tried it yet, Schildy?  I respect your opinion and judgement when it comes to horror games and films.

Yeah, I was wondering how a top down could create a scary atmosphere.  If it's good and cheap, well, that's okay, too.  Thanks.

Monthly Humble Sub will give you Dark Souls III and a DLC for same.

Considering I wanted this and the price is still full, I consider this a rather good thing.

The Humble Monthly is a pretty good deal IMO.  You get some good AAA games like Dark Souls 3 and Civ 6 (last month) plus an extra 10% off in addition to the 5% in store credit whenever you buy games in their store.  If you make a few purchases with them, it adds up.  I was recently able to get the Tomb Kings DLC for Total Warhammer for like $5.

I really wish the CK dlc's were 75+% off, although I really only want way of life and maybe the republic.

Steam is now spamming Facebook with old sales. It’s confusing and amusing at the same time.

The Flame in the Flood is free for the next  47 hours in the Humble Bundle store, if you're so inclined.

Quote
Summary

A rogue-lite river journey through the backwaters of a forgotten post-societal America. Forage, craft, evade predators.

From the Art Director of BioShock and a team of veterans of the BioShock, Halo, Guitar Hero and Rock Band series comes The Flame in the Flood.

Travel by foot and by raft down a procedurally-generated river as you scrounge for resources, craft tools, remedy afflictions, evade the vicious wildlife, and stay ahead of the coming rains.

Features an original full length soundtrack by acclaimed Alt-Country rocker Chuck Ragan featuring The Camaraderie, The Fearless Kin and other special guests.

Just ran into this site: When is the next Steam sale. Doing these big sales at some point has to hurt Steam. Unless you absolutely have to have a new release, why would you ever not wait for the sale?

Steam sales are nothing like they used to be, its a gradual decline in costs instead of dropping down to 75% sale within a year.

Yup, I barely play anything I get on Steam sales other than Rocksmith DLC, so I'm pretty much over it. Instead of buying dozens of things I don't play, I'm back to buying a couple titles a year at release. I get way more bang for my buck that way.

I actually bought some crap this time. Beyond the usual smattering of Rocksmith stuff, I picked up a couple Far Crys because I enjoyed 5 quite a bit ("story" notwithstanding). Also a couple I had my eye on, Tell Tale Batman and the new Hitman, both after playing demos last night. Oddly, Hitman was cheaper as a bundle with Absolution.

I love that Steam Sales are so shit they don't even warrant their own threads anymore.

I do not love that the Steam forum survived The Purge 2018 but Minecraft did not.

steam is the biggest gaming platform on the planet (so, basically the known universe)

minecraft is digital legos

it's not about liking something

to wit - steam sales used to be amazing because we didn't own every game from the last 15 years, eventually we got to the point where we DID own every game because of deep discounts, so now we only look at one to two years (at most) of releases, and the last few years of gaming have been tired nonsense

Also, Steam is full to fuck of survival crafting sandbox games of all variety in all stages of early access. Also, killing the super discount flash sales made Steam sales boring and predictable.

Apparently the original Lumines has popped up as Lumines Remastered.  I am very happy about this.
