I was looking for a thread that points out passing deals, like weekend ones and other short lived bargains, to avoid making a new thread for every game that might be of interest or not. Couldn't find one other than the "games worth buying thread", but I think this is different enough.

This weekend, Arma III is 40% off, so about 27€ instead of the usual 45. Even in beta stage sounds like a huge deal considering it won't cost any less when it'll go release. And judging on Arma II and the sheer amount of sandboxy mods, seems like this one is going to last.

I find these two websites worthy of checking pretty much every day:

SavvyGamer. (UK based so may not be useful for non-UK residents).
Steam Sales Tracker. (Can customise for your own region).

Stupid money conversion. Also, I was pretty sure we euros always got swindled by paying 5 euros what you pay 5 dollars. Looks like it's not always the case.

If you really want to get screwed with the currencies try Titanfall's collector's edition priced at $249.99 USD... if you live in the USA.

for others:
The retail price in the currencies we will support are €299.99 EUR, £249.99 GBP, and $399.99 AUD.  swamp poop

$399.99 Australian? Are you fucking kidding me? If the Down Unders weren't such cheery fuckers all the time, I'd expect they'd be sending some of their deadly indigenous wildlife to the offices of Titanfall's devs and publishers for that shit. That is flat fucking robbery. Not that the Euro and Pound prices are much fucking better.

I never bother with the collector stuff if it's because you get a statue or something.  I don't collect things so I never know what to do with them.  No one in my family ever wants them and I don't have friends who collect those sorts of things.  I have bought a collector's edition for other more gamey stuff.  Never bought one that was THAT expensive, though.  Things that stay inside the computer don't collect dust.  Those prices are really out of whack.  Get your friends in the US to buy it for you!

The fallout one were probably worth it, FO3 came with a bobble head vault boy and a vault-tech lunch box which I should have gotten. Sad Panda  Then again it was like 100$ not 400$

I snagged that one, although now I'm not sure where either the lunch box or the bobble head have gotten to.

I swear, I don't think I ever remember seeing a game that is on sale as often as Far Cry 3, and that doesn't even included when Playstation Plus was giving it away for free.  The sheer desperation of it makes me not want to play it.  Well, that and the fact that I was turned completely off by FC2.

FC3 is a lot better than 2. It's not got any replay value but for under a tenner (of whatever currency) it's good value.

I got Far Cry 3 because I am a sucker for openworld-ish games but turns out there's a lot to do, including cool multiplayer (both PvP and Co-op). I was planning to put this game on the "One day..." shelf but I got hookd for about 4 hours non-stop. Loved the intro sequence, that probably sold me (M.I.A. Paper Planes certainly did). It's like modern day Skyrim. Also, spiritual remake of Mike Singleton's Flames of Freedom. Anyway, sale is over so no point in hyping it. Just feel like my 5€ were incredibly well spent.

Well, what I was saying was that with Far Cry 3, don't worry about missing the sale...because it will be on sale again extremely soon.

Oh well, mostly I won't buy it simply because I have way too many other things to play already.

Depending how heavy that is, it might not actually be cheaper to have a US person buy and ship. International shipping is nuts.

The steam sales tracker has made me immune to all but the most serious 85%+ discounts too. Steam winter & summer sales are when to keep an eye out for the 1-day 97% off bargains ;)

In my opinion, no.  I spent $7.50 for it.

It's pretty shallow and the bugginess/jankiness eventually got to me.  The combat is crap, the controls are horrid, and the game structure leaves something to be desired.  You're constantly bugged to do shit in game and it feels like chores instead of what you'd prefer to be doing.  Plus, the super-zombies are dumb.

Otherwise, it's somewhat interesting.  It feels that if this game was given a real AAA attempt or even just a more complete one, it could be something special.  As is, I got a few nights out of it and then put it down.

So is the DLC worth $3.49 then?  why so serious?

The game does have issues but I enjoyed it enough to finish the game and played some of the DLC before stopping. I played with a trainer running, though, to avoid some of the more annoying bits.

I think I bought it on sale for roughly the same, and thought it was totally worth it.  It clearly could have benefited from some improved production values, but overall I found it to be really fun.

Didn't try the DLC, because I actually failed to finish the main game (did a Windows re-install and forgot to save my Steam saves file...oops).  Have heard it isn't as fun as the main game.

I'd say State of Decay is worth it.. but I also prefer the DLC to the main game due to being more sand-boxy (albeit only in that you don't have a dumb-ish plot line pushing you along and just increasing levels of difficulty as you advance.. could use another map-set, though...). The game definitely has some issues that largely stem from it originally being a XBLA game, but not enough to not be worth $10-$15. I do, however, use a few mods to make things better (such as the Skilled people stay home mod, which prevents people with certain skills, like your doctor, from going out on missions that then require your to come and babysit them so they don't die) and run a trainer in the background to deal with some issues I don't like (such as the stamina system.. fuck the stamina system).

I bought State of Decay for like $5 last sale, and I think I played it once. It was alright, but not great, and I don't think I ever played it again. I didn't realize it was mostly an action game and I think I meant to buy Project Zomboid instead. Welp.

Hearts of Iron III and all it's DLC is 75% off at the moment. I know there's a few people here who are into that kind of thing :)

Also, just going back to Falcs original post regarding Arma 3, I've been playing it a lot for some months now with a few friends and it's an absolutely fantastic multiplayer experience. It's clunky, janky, demanding, difficult and the single player campaigns aren't awesome, but if you've got a few friends who are into it and willing to work around it's quirks it's an unparalleled military near-sim.

Football Manager 2014 is 66% off to celebrate "Pancake Day" (I have no idea...). So only 17€ instead of the usual 45.

10 hours left as I type this.
