That BF4 looks like every other shooter on rails  swamp poop

BF 4 is I think the final piece of the EA Acquisition puzzle. It's the last dryhumping of a successful franchise before the slow decline caused by not actually doing shit to make the later iterations of the franchise better or even remotely fucking different. This is Command & Conquer, the FPS version.

Also, $500.

FUCK

YOU.

There has literally not been one thing this console has shown me that even remotely makes me interested in it.

For what it's worth this is what I was expecting from a BF4 video (and the kind of gameplay that might actually get me to buy it)

Already pre-ordered a PS4 on Amazon.  It's possible I'll decide to cancel and not get one at launch, but there's zero chance I'd pick up an xbone (instead or additional to), even if Microsoft ditched the daily-checkin, physical media restrictions, etc -- there just are zero (exclusive) titles for their platform that hold any interest for me, and I don't see that changing.  No interest in Wii-U either.

I suspect, as PS3 has had fewer compelling titles for me than PS2, PS4 will continue that trend, but signs point to some unique stuff for this generation that I'll want.  And I'm hoping they'll have improved boot time and the bluray/dvd player... which is serviceable on PS3 but clunky.

I'm not really sold on streaming service being an acceptable replacement for native game ports, but maybe they'll surprise me.  I play almost exclusively single player offline games on consoles, so not needing to worry about comcast crapping out on me is a plus.

Even my ancient PC is about as powerful as these consoles. And with the platforms being basically PC's, the games built on engines and libraries that ease porting and the developers more or less needing to widen their consumer base things looks quite good for PC gaming.

Though if Sony had followed MS it would have been a wonderful opening for a possible steam-box.

So as of right now, what do you, the unwashed masses of F13, plan to buy, if anything?

Nothing on release - too much backlog for now. But eventually a PS4. And never for the bone. Which is a decent turnaround for me, since I have like twenty times the number of 360 games compared to PS3.

It really isn't as powerful. You cannot compare like for like when it comes to PCs and consoles. Consoles have always technically lagged behind PCs and yet deliver better results on the lower specs because of how they are built, the fixed spec and the ability to code directly to the machine.

A PC from 8 years ago wouldn't be able to play ME3 for example, but the 360 did just fine.

Sony won simply due to not shitting the bed like MS. They still failed to provide me with one game that makes buying a PS4 at launch seem like a good idea. Right now I'd be more likely to pick up a tablet to play Hex on at work than I would a new console. I mean, I'm sure I'll get a PS4 down the line at some point, but it won't be for timed exclusive indie titles, exclusives from SquareEnix, or sequels to Killzone and inFamous.

I'll be buying a PS4 eventually, but probably not at launch; I've no plans to buy an Xbone. Like many of you, I'm not excited by the PS4 launch titles shown thus far;  once it's been out for a year or so and the JRPGs start to show up stateside, I'll pick one up.

Most of the advantage consoles have is because their display goals are so low. If a PC only has to output 720p, 30fps and turns the nice image processing off it would be an interesting contest. That said buying a modern day low-end graphics card for the PC will erase much of the benefit (we can do that).

Less relevant now anyway. The larger size of the software means less hand optimisation, commodity hardware and growth of cross platform engines mean comparisons are much easier. Plus PC hardware is unified around only two graphics card vendors which are the same as those on the console. I'm pretty confident my elderly PC with a mid end video card upgrade could play XBox-one games. Though I certainly plan to have it upgraded soon.

They look different, though...what's that about?  Looks like that section toward the top pops out or opens up.  I am not arguing to justify their price, I just want to know what is actually different.  It is getting a little annoying with all of these consoles that you have to rebuy controllers every goddamn time.

Another thing I thought of.  We have a Vita in the house, so I am genuinely curious to see if they will actually pull off some good integration.  Are they aiming for something like the WiiU controller?  Sounds at least like you will be able to use it as a second screen, and also be able to play PS4 games over WiFi...isn't that like WiiU?  I think they made similar promises for the PS3, so I am not exactly holding my breath.

I can continue to not buy X-boxes making this a 3-gen running streak.  Yea!

I'll ignore the PS4 until I can get a nice used one for a steal.

Experience has shown me that parents buy their kids Nintendo or handheld if they're young enough to not have an opinion.  When their kids know more than enough to have an opinion they'll go with what their friends get so they can trade games.  This puts the Xbox out of the running entirely.

Games selling/ trade-ins is a very big deal for the 13-17 year-old crowd.  My nephews and their friends were not happy about the Xbone 'no trades' set-up when I spoke with them a few weeks ago, and these are not "gamer" kids.  Their dad is far too in to sports for that (and thus, so are they) so they are only allowed to game 1-2 hours a day every few days when school's in between practices, games and doing chores.

Nintendo also captures some of the Apple market. I remember our resident Macaddict driving around several towns looking for one the holiday season it released. I think they used it for a month.

I've got a jones for playing console football, but it hasn't been strong enough to buy a console yet. Neither was the RDR exclusivity (dammit). The timing is bad for the football jones, releasing at the end of the season means I'll wait until next year to buy it, by which time the GTA should be announced for the PC (or be out).

I mentioned this in the Rocksmith threaad, but if the PS4 can cut Rocksmith latency vs the PC, I might grab one just for that.

I have no interest in the creepy camera fascist console.

So yeah, typical Nintendo E3. First party awesomeness with a pinch of third party "just because".  why so serious?

It's alright though.  Hex and all that jazz.  Maybe the third parties will give the Wii U another look now that the Xbone shit the bed.

I definitely see no scenario where I will ever want an XBone. If I buy one, it'll be the PS4 and it won't be at launch. For the "less than $5/month" (which let's face it probably means $4.99), the PS+ membership so totally owns the face of XBox Live it's not even funny. A free game per month, online mutliplayer (which shouldn't cost but I understand it), PS3 backwards compatibility with whatever their Galkai Cloud Gaming thing is - if I decide I want the mutliplayer, and since both consoles require a paid membership for such, the + option is SO MUCH BETTER than Live Gold.

Had Microsoft walked out on the stage and said, "This is the One. It will literally rape your children," they could not have failed greater than they did with the presentation they made. Sony didn't even have to TRY.

I guess rounded corners are passe now?

I don't get Nintendo's strategy at all.

They neither support third party developers nor indie developers.

Third parties would need something on par with PS3/Xbox 360 or PS4/Xbone to justify targetting a Nintendo device since the cost of development for a real port will probably not be recouped fully to justify it if they targeted the less powerful Wii or WiiU while versions for the other platforms basically fall out with the flip of a switch and minimal effort.

Indie devs don't really have access to the Wii or WiiU in the same way they have on iOS/Android or PS3/4/Vita.

So you get a WiiU that has neither 3rd party titles nor indie titles and even worse doesn't have any 1st party titles either so far. How they would like to sell a console that doesn't have any games is something I don't really get. Eeven if they announce a Mario/Zelda/Metroid trifecta today it will be six months to a year until those titles launch, so what's the point Nintendo?

The same with the DS. Ok it still has a certain image as a gaming devive for kids and the curation of games and the store means that parent's can comfortably buy a DS for their kids and don't need to fear that they will get hit on by predators over the internet or have access to violent or inappropriate games.

This too will pass though since phones/tablets already outsell the DS and are a potentially larger market for game devs.

Was the Wii basically the last hurrah of Nintendo?

The stuff Nintendo showed will no doubt be good but they desperately need a new Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness sequel or something in that vein. Even something like Galaxy that put a new spin on an old formula. Or new IP that is more "mature."

It's hard to get excited about stuff like a Wii U 3D Land, even though 3D Land is an awesome game. Almost every game they showed was worth owning, but not necessarily exciting. It didn't help that the fucking stream paused every 3 seconds and at one point skipped ahead about 4 minutes for me.

X looked awesome though.

Actually, a free game and maybe one or two more just for the heck of it.  Oh, and here is a weird little indie game.  And a Vita game.

That is what i have seen so far.  It has already paid for itself a couple times over after only three months.

Yeah, X is the only thing making me happy I bought a Wii U (I know, I know). I consider first-party titles an added bonus (I will legitimately play and love Wii U 3D Land, the 3DS version is phenomenal).

Good thing I'll have all these other friends who own Wii Us to play online woh wait

I want to play basically everything they showed. Even Mario Kart, which I had kinda lost interest in, thanks to the F-Zero vibes with the track design. But there wasn't anything to get super excited about. Although that was the story of all the conferences really. Everything is either very familiar or a $15 indie title.
