First trailer here.

Loved Pitch Black and even liked Chronicles of Riddick, but I'm glad that this is closer to the former than the latter.  Looks pretty good imo.

Wait, didn't he become High Emperor of the Necromongers or something at the end of the last movie (btw spoilers)?  Why is he stranded on some bumfuck planet with monsters again?  Why do I care?

My guess he ran away or tried to disband the Necromongers and is now being hunted for it.  One of the guys that's hunting him in the trailer has Necromonger armor on.

You don't care.  They've remade Pitch Black and since it's a reboot you don't care.  YOU DON'T CARE.

None of the above may be true, but I don't care either.

Also, Starbuck.  And someone else who looks even more attractive.  So there's that.

Starbuck looks like a man. I don't see the appeal with her.

Oh yes, please.  Something about Vin Diesel's voice as Riddick is just awesome, IMO.  And Ironwood's right, it's just Pitch Black rebooted, but who cares!

She's a feisty female.  I can see the attraction even if she was plain which she's not, same for Ripley, more interesting character than some girly type who needs to be saved all the time.

Feisty?

Really?

Also, people were sexually attracted to Ripley? Am I missing a joke here? I've heard this before, mind you, but I've always shrugged it off and laughed internally. Now I'm just flat out asking wtf.

Sigourney Weaver is lovely and quite sexy.  Ripley is just Sigourney Weaver.  If you don't like, you don't like, but don't be that guy.

Looks almost like a remake of Pitch Black.  Not that that's necessarily a bad thing.

Yeah, I don't know what to say, I'm equally confused how anyone could not find Ripley attractive.  It's a strong character who doesn't take any shit played by Sigourney Weaver.

I thought Pitch Black was better than Chronicles, but I liked a lot of what Chronicles was doing, or tried to do, and I was exited about the implications at the end.  (King Conan shot ftw!)  So I'm excited to see more Riddick, but a little disappointed that it seems they drop the Necromonger arc almost completely, some random dude wearing the armor notwithstanding.  Granted, it is completely within Riddick's character to become all-powerful ruler of an undead-ish army, and immediately go, 'Fuck you guys, fuck this throne, fuck this place, I'm out.  Paece.' *mic drop*

My feelings, in short:

Allow me to be very specific:

Starbuck is a strict downgrade in the "hot girl" department from Radha Mitchell, Alexa Davalos, and Thandie Newton. and Judi Dench.

Now I'm picturing movies like this if they totally botched casting the female.  What if, like, Carey Mulligan was in it. (I mean that would make me like it more but I've got a pretty obvious type, soooooo)

Unf.  Pitch Black / Chronicles are some of my favorite shit.  I'm glad to see it's back.

Wait.

And here I thought I was the only one who is completely repulsed by her. Everyone I chatted with about Batman seemed to be gaga over her. Good to know.

And what is wrong with Rodriguez other than terrible acting? I find her tomboyish-ness kinda hot.

Well I personally don't find 'bad-ass girl' trope attractive, but mostly I was mocking how she's always in action movies as the plucky female (see: L.A., Battle)

I don't.  She's a little too manly for me, particularly in the later movies.  Then again, I just watched Resurrection the other night and that may have put me off.

But she's in the new one, which can't not be awesome because it has the Rock and Vin Diesel in it.  A paradox.

I think Michelle Rodriguez is hot, although she does remind me of an ex from high school.  I never thought Katee Sackhoff was anything too special.. but I'd still do her over Maggie Gyllenhall and Thandie Newton.

I was trying, after rereading, trying poorly, to get across the point that attraction is such a subjective thing that I don't personally see any point to discussing it.  But yeah, I was more talking about Alien.

I'll have to rewatch the first two movies, I can't remember much except I liked pitch black more than the 2nd.  Is it fair to say Riddick is just Conan in space or is there more to it?
