This is a new show by Shawn Ryan (creator of The Shield). It looks incredible, and I hope it lives up to its promise. (And it's got Andre Braugher in it).

From the Facebook page:

Quote
About
Betrayed by their nation and cut off from a world that has gone to war. They must build a defense, decide who to trust and take desperate measures against the threat of their own country and every other nation on the planet.

Description
500 feet beneath the ocean’s surface, the U.S. ballistic missile submarine Colorado receives their orders. Over a radio channel, designed only to be used if their homeland has been wiped out, they’re told to fire nuclear weapons at Pakistan.

Captain Marcus Chaplin (Andre Braugher) demands confirmation of the orders only to be unceremoniously relieved of duty by the White House. XO Sam Kendal (Scott Speedman) finds himself suddenly in charge of the submarine and facing the same difficult decision. When he also refuses to fire without confirmation of the orders, the Colorado is targeted, fired upon, and hit. The submarine and its crew find themselves crippled on the ocean floor, declared rogue enemies of their own country. Now, with nowhere left to turn, Chaplin and Kendal take the sub on the run and bring the men and women of the Colorado to an exotic island. Here they will find refuge, romance, and a chance at a new life, even as they try to clear their names and get home.

From executive producer/writer Shawn Ryan (The Shield, The Unit, The Chicago Code) and Executive producer/writer Karl Gajdusek comes this dramatic new international action-thriller about treachery, treason, and nuclear brinksmanship. LAST RESORT contemplates establishing of a new society in the modern world, and character becomes everything when unthinkable decisions must be made.

Starring Daisy Betts, Andre Braugher, Camille De Pazzis , Dichen Lachman (Sierra on Dollhouse), Daniel Lissing, Autumn Reeser, Jessy Schram, Sahr Ngaujau, Scott Speedman

Starts September 27 (Thursdays) on ABC.

Shawn Ryan's name attached is the only reason I have any hope for this, and it's a forlorn hope. The trailers leave me cold. I can't see the story having any legs.

I just watched the first episode (on the web here).

I liked it very much. It's going on the TiVo.

While I enjoyed the first episode I have no idea how they are going to turn this into seasons long show. Might've made a good movie.

And if we are going to give revolution crap for believability then we need to give this one as well. (including using ohios for seal pickups). The writing and characters better be damned good.

My wife's first reaction "So it's like Battlestar Galactica, but under water?"   why so serious?

Agreed.  There was enough tidbits of action to get me interested, but I think they should have done what BSG did: Start off with a mini-series to get the show nice and neatly set with the characters and setting, then move onto weekly ventures.

So I watched this.  While it is certainly light-years better than Revolution, this show also has some problems.  Really, everything can be traced to what I think was its biggest problem: they tried to cram way, way too much into that first one hour episode.  They could have easily spread that one hour out over a good four hours, which would have done a better job establishing the scenario and characters while also making it much more suspenseful.

As it is, I lost track of most of the characters and sense of time as we hurtled through that first episode.  Plus,

should have had a lot more impact than they gave it.  This premise done with a better creative team could have been really good, but I have my doubts about the team the show has.

Over and out.

I enjoyed it.  It got a little loose with reality, but it held my attention.

Just saw the second ep. Liked it, the tension on the island got ratcheted up, plus shit stateside got real in a hurry too. Poor Jessy Schram though, first in Falling Skies and now in this, doomed to play the loving girlfriend/wife that gets fucked over by fate and circumstance.

Still enjoying this...they've managed to keep things moving along, even though it appears that only a week as gone by in the series timeline.

Yeah, because any show that goes up against Big Bang Theory is going to get great numbers.  Show was decent, but it did have some trouble finding its footing.

If this was on NBC, CBS, or hell, even Fox, it would have at least gotten to finish the whole first season based on the numbers it bought in.

The ABC fucks aren't even letting the show live past the winter halfway break.  At least it's taking 666 Park Ave. with it.

The Devil's Advocate in me though would like to voice his valid concern of just how the hell this show would actually work past the first season anyways, unless they plan on trying to stretch a month's worth of in-show time over two or three season (according to the dialog I've been following, we're on episode 9, yet in-show only has maybe two weeks gone by)

Fox would've given it a full season then moved it to the 2am sunday morning time slot to see if it succeeds, THEN they would cancel it.

Good news for people that like the show.  They had enough notice to be able to tweak scripts and give the show a legit series finale.  I'll kind of miss it I think, it had a lot of potential.

At least we'll get closure. I didn't think it'd have the legs to last more than a season, but I'll miss it too.

Well, fuck. I was really liking this one. I gave up on Revolution after three episodes. I would have called that show's death before this one.

Our local affiliate didn't show it because of Thursday Night Football. When the hell did that become a thing?

If one of the teams on TNF is local to you it'll show up on one of your local affiliate national over-the-air channels (ABC, CBS, NBC) as well. MNF is the same way. E.g. when the Niners are one of the MNF teams it shows up on CBS here in the Bay Area as well.

Agreed.  I'd rather a series get canned and at least wrap up the storylines instead of leaving everything on the floor and walking away.

Ok, just watched the last two episodes on Hulu. Nice that they managed to end it half decently, but WHERE THE HELL DID THE DEAD WIFE COME FROM?

Granted, I do tend to drink whilst I'm watching TV but I don't remember anything except that she was supposedly blown up in a truck or something at an airport(?). Did I pass out and miss something along the way?

At the end of that ep, you see the former SEAL has her tied up in his bathroom in Manilla. He faked her death for a payoff.

Yeah, the fact that the weapons dealer woman bought her back was implied, even though the guy she sent had said he was done... very rushed, you had to connect dots after.

They never said what happened to the arms seller woman after what she did. Should we assume that she never made it out of that room?
