I could have sworn there was a thread for this already, but couldn't turn one up.

Anyway, after being stuck in rights hell, it's finally getting released... the movie we were all waiting for... the Red Dawn remake.

And now it has a trailer.

I'm really sorry.

Wasn't this already remade into a mediocre video game?

The original "remake" was about the Chinese invading - from what I read. Might have had something to do with the delay in releasing it.

No the studio that it belonged to went away. It was stuck in limbo/dev hell. It wasn't reshot.

Yes, its release was delayed because they had to change the villains from Chinese to North Koreans.

EDIT: I don't think they did any reshoots, mind you, but they did have to change the nationality. It isn't like Americans would know the difference anyway.

It ws a mix. I completely forgot that they changed the chinese thing. I always assumed it was always "vaguely asian".

But MGM was the studio doing it, and they were.. having issues. But that may have been somewhat a smokescreen, but it was also part of what delayed Cabin in the Woods.

via wikipedia, hilarity.

Quote
"In March 2011, the Los Angeles Times reported that MGM is changing the villains in its Red Dawn remake from Chinese to North Korean in order to maintain access to China's lucrative box office. The changes reportedly cost less than $1 million and involve changing an opening sequence summarizing the story's fictional backdrop, re-editing two scenes and using digital technology to transform many Chinese symbols to Korean. The changes will not eliminate all references to China though will give North Korea a much larger role in the coalition that invades the U.S. Producer Trip Vinson stated, "We were initially very reluctant to make any changes, but after careful consideration we constructed a way to make a scarier, smarter and more dangerous 'Red Dawn' that we believe improves the movie."[16]"
So they went from "this might offend chinese" to "now we're just assuming they all look alike." Yeah, nothing offensive about that.

So in a roundabout way the ended up making a remake of Homefront.

Oh goody, China will complete it's take over of AMC theaters at the end of August.  To bad its still not China in the movie, but everybody knows who it actually is, so the Chinese public's responses to it playing at AMC theaters across the US should be rather comedic.

A lot of Bush's mannerisms were purposefully done to increase his Drinking Buddy appeal.

One of the reviews said the whole thing is a tea party fantasy as well.  Apparently the president just doesn't react at all to the not-Chinese invasion, which is why it's up to the kids to take there 2nd amendment guns and drive out the chinks themselves.

The whole premise of the original Red Dawn was an objectivist-with-a-gun-fetish-who-hates-mexican-people's  wet dream. I wouldn't expect anything less hyperbolic in a remake.

As I said, the original is hilarious. All these Communist troops parachuting into Nowheresville, USA, they shoot the black guy first for no real reason, the old man who sends his virgin 18-yo daughters (or granddaughters, can't remember) with the red blooded young US males so that the communists don't get their godless penises anywhere near them, the father who says something like, "what I did in raising you might have been considered abuse, but now I'm justifed!" and a host of other cliches. And Patrick Swayze can't act. At all.

The only reason it is probably remembered is that it is a great teen boy power fantasy - that they'd be able to just pick up a gun and take on trained soldiers and win.

All you really need to know is that the original Red Dawn is 100% John Milius, the guy the Coen brothers based Walter on.

In the mid 80's there wasn't a lot of entertainment choices and it was potluck if you chose to rent Red Dawn or something like 976-EVIL, which was fucking terrible.

Its a league game.

A nation consists of its laws. A nation does not consist of its situation at a given time. If an individual's morals are situational, then that individual is without morals. If a nation's laws are situational, that nation has no laws, and soon isn't a nation.
