Here's the announcement.

Announcing the Guild Wars 2 Launch Date

BY MIKE O'BRIEN JUNE 28TH, 2012 more on: betadevelopmentlaunch

Earlier this year I told you that 2012 would be the Year of the Dragon, and that the next few betas would help us nail down our actual launch date. Well, after the results of our latest stress test, I’m happy to announce that we’re ready to nail down that date.

Guild Wars 2 will officially launch on Tuesday, August 28th.

This is an incredibly momentous day for the studio and for me personally. This journey began in 2007 when we first announced that we were beginning work on Guild Wars 2 and that you wouldn’t be hearing from us for a while. Then in 2010 we unveiled our manifesto for Guild Wars 2: a living breathing online world that challenges convention, that’s designed for fun instead of grind, and that brings social interaction to a new level in an online world.
Through all the long hours and hard decisions, we were bolstered by the knowledge that we were not in this alone. All along you’ve been there for us, cheering us on, supporting us when we needed it, testing early versions of the game, and above all, giving us your honest feedback every step of the way. Guild Wars 2 is a better game for all of the work that our community has put in.

Now that we’re just two months away from launch, we’ll spend our remaining time optimizing, polishing, and balancing the game, to ensure that we provide you with the best launch-day experience we possibly can.
To this end, I’m excited to announce that our next and final Beta Weekend Event is planned for July 20-22.

These are exciting times; we’re on the cusp of a new era in online roleplaying games, and we’re glad you’re on this journey with us.

We’ll see you in-game.

Fuuuuck.  Timing sucks on this one.  I was hoping I would be comfortably in my new home by the time this is released.  I might be finished with everything by then.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay sooner than I thought though.  I guess they have two months to do class balances because that shit isn't even close.

I was figuring November, personally. Sweet. 2 months to blow up tanks before switching gears back to an MMO. Here's hoping it's ready.

I wonder if the next (and final) BWE will be more open beta-like or will it have limited players like the ones before...

and I wonder how soon Blizzard will announce the release date for MOP

Fuck that means the pre-purchase headstart begins the same day that I start a three day customer upgrade that features two teams rotating 12 hour shifts.

Are they going to have an open beta?  I don't really want to buy it if my mediocre laptop can't play it well :-/

I wouldn't rule out a trial, though.

They have little reason to have an open beta. Popular enough, load tested, and they're not trying to suck you into starting a subscription fee.

I guess the question is, does anyone have any idea how well it will work with a Nvidia NVS 4200M with 4 gigs of video RAM, 8 Gigs of real RAM and a I5 2.5Ghz quad core?

The mobile makes me nervous, but that's better raw power than my 07 desktop and I haze ZERO issues outside of the occasional memory crash in WvW with a full house (2GB RAM on Vista! :D)

Can that mobile card run any games?

That laptop sounds all around better than my desktop.  9600 quad, 250GT 1 mb, 4mb RAM

Hahahaha!  I'm really good at this!

How can a mobile chip have more video ram than a $600 discrete GPU?   ACK!

I missed the greenmangaming.com 25% discount, but if you go there and redeem this free game you will be sent a code for 20% off one game, which includes GW2.

You have until the end of the month to use the code which lets you check out the last beta weekend before purchasing.

Get the free game today though, the 20% code won't be sent to you after tomorrow when a new deal will be posted.
