I considered putting this in the Blood Bowl sub-forum (and it'll probably get moved there anyways), but I figured since it's a stand-alone game, it probably goes better here with the rest of them.

Anyways, Dungeon Bowl's out now, downloadable/online-only.  It takes all the fun of Blood Bowl and packs it down into a dungeon environment, where the teams are now inter-mixed to represent the different colleges of magic.  Aside from that and the scoring change (in which the first team that finds and TDs the ball wins the whole game), everything else about Blood Bowl goes; the blocking, the maiming, the Nuffle-cursed dice, and the killing.

It's $15 right now out the door.  The low price is because of the 10 team/schools of magic in the official rule book, only three are playable right now: Light (Dwarfs, Halflings, Norse), Bright (Dwarfs, Humans, Norse), and Rainbow (Wood Elfs, Halflings, Humans).  The rest will (probably) come out as DLC.

The game should be on Steam by next week too.

It is Cyanide, the other teams won't come out as DLC, they'll get added one or two at a time as new full price editions of the game that aren't compatible with previous ones.

I dunno...part of me likes to think they're getting a 'little' bit smarter.  Going through Cyanide's version of the DB manual, the screen shots they're using are showing a couple of things:

- They're still using the same goddamned engine/client.
- They've improved the engine to the point where they're trusting the players to make their own dungeons with it.

They say the next team will be released next month, after they get the game on Steam.

A Games Workshop title going on sale within the first six months of release?  Surely you jest.

Once you've got some experience with an engine and the development tools that go with it, switching out to a new one is a big decision and an expensive one too. Gamebryo isn't terrible (DAoC was made with it), it's just old (DAoC was made with it).

Methinks the problem isn't the engine.

It says quite a lot that I, a reliable day one purchaser of anything with GW IP crowbarred into it, cannot give any shits whatsoever about this game. GJ Cyanide.

I'm right there with you. It doesn't appeal to me at all. I care more about them fixing the fuckups with the UI in the new Blood Bowl edition than I do about this.

Browsing through the BB forums, there does seem to be high hope that they have addressed a lot of the things they've ID'd as bugs and concerns, a lot of which was deployed in Dungeon Bowl here.

Time will tell, I suppose.

I don't really know. I would have loved this as an expansion to Blood Bowl, giving us the ability to play with our old teams. Having to launch a different client, make new teams and all? I don't feel the desire to do that. It feels like a chore for very little returns.

I'll wait for this to go on sale/have more colleges of magic, etc before I think about it.

Hmm they kept Dungeon Bowl quiet...

Having said that something called Blood Bowl: Chaos Edition appear to be coming out in September

Yeah, it's just the next iteration of Blood Bowl.  Three new sides and other stuff.  There's a thread about it in the Blood Bowl sub-forum, though its name is a tad cryptic.

As far as I can tell, this game has no single player mode, no tutorial, no manual, and no Steam forum.  So, grognards only, basically.

For this very reason I won't buy it. I'm sick of this.

The devs appear to be in the process of doing a bait and switch regarding Steam activation

According to an earlier Dev post and the support FAQ the download keys can be registered as a Steam game.

Having tried this they don't work and now the Devs appear to be claiming they meant adding it as a non-Steam game.

Still waiting for a reply from Steam support........

There should be a petition to give the IP to a competent dev house.
