Looks like they're making "It" into a movie.  I have to say, even to this day, Tim Curry's Pennywise in the TV movie is the most terrifying entity I've ever seen on film.   I've always been afraid of clowns and Pennywise was the worst.  He still freaks me out whenever I see him.  Anyway, I don't know what the point of making this is since I doubt it can be any better than the TV version.

The TV version cut a lot of the extra characters and situations, making it more focused on the main characters.

I'm not sure a more direct adaption of It can be done. It's a long, rambling book that captures the creepiness of living in a small town really well, along with all the collective skeletons in the closet that exist there.

Other parts of the book don't hold up well. Not sure I need to spoiler a source that old, but just in case:

Yeah, pretty much;  I don't know how a 'faithful' adaptation could ever work given the actual ending.  The TV version wasn't all that good and the end level boss looked utterly fucking retarded.

The only reason to remake something like this is if current technology allows for effects that were not available at the time of the original that would also make the film version better.  That is not the case this time.

I agree. In fact, after finishing IT that was a first time I thought to myself, "Man is King a child molester? That's fucked up!"

Never read his stuff. I've read lots of Kings stuff and it was the first time I was really uncomfortable with his storytelling.

Actually, twice in that book I got uncomfortable. The kids touching each other in the junkyard was also over the top and unnecessary.

I cannot imagine anybody making a faithful version of the ending, except as a weird European art film. It would get anyone who tried arrested.

Book was fucking superb. Original miniseries, shy of the horrible spider ending was superb. I'll have some measure of faith in this project simply because the director and writer don't seem to have been totally tainted by Hollywood. Also, the writer worked on Pi. Worse people could've been involved (note: he was not actually relevant on Pi, but he was on set doing bullshit, good enough for me).

I don't know how the U.S. cable TVs were in the early nineties compared to today, but I must say that it would be interesting to see another "It" miniseries with the standards (production quality, budget etc.) we're used to nowadays by HBO, AMC or Showtime.

If done correctly this will be epic.  One of the best stories out there.

Rape implies that there was some unwillingness on the part of one of the parties involved. If there's one thing I've learned from reading Piers Anthony in my dark and distant past it's that pre-adolescent girls love cock and are usually the ones seducing men. Also, lots of stuff about little girl panties.
