I'm downloading it now. We'll see what happens.
They are saying words I like, like 'building', 'procedural loot', and 'voxels'

They've got a handful of download links and even a torrent in the description for the youtube video; that's how I got my hands on it.

Would you kindly produce a web game.

Yea, that looks wonderful! Between this and Cubeworld I might just get my "Minecraft + more gameplay" fix.

I was chalking up the server load to it being posted on Reddit.
Anyway, if nothing else the spinning double bat thing is worth the price of admission itself. The video had me torn between fits of le awesome and le haw haw. Maybe it's hawesome?

Wait wait wait. I thought this shit was supposed to be a myth! I distinctly remember a thread in this forum (and a few others) where people were flaming back and forth about the tech. used in this game (procedural voxels?). Even Notch was all . In the end the whole topic was chalked up to developer bullshit for the sake of funding. Wow, a lot of people feel like arses now. <cough> So, let us assume this isnt bishop and the game doesn't crack most rigs in half. Possible paradigm shift here a tad?

Is this the same voxel based Minecraft clone that was on Kickstarter?
I think not.

If you're referring to this stuff, I don't think the idea was "voxels are BS" so much as "the stuff this guy is claiming he can do with voxels is BS" (specifically, full scale game worlds with unlimited resolution and dynamic physics which will wash your car and give you a pony and so on). It was less a criticism of voxels and more a criticism of the guy's company/sales pitch.

There's a vast difference between a voxel-like representation of world-space and a voxel-driven graphics engine. Starforge appears to use standard polygons for its rendering pipeline, but may represent the world under-the-hood in with something similar to low-resolution voxels. (In fact, I believe it's driven by the Unity engine, which uses a standard polygon rendering pipeline.)

Dear Indie Game Creator,
Please post a SHA-256 hash of your download so people could verify downloads via torrent, etc, as being un-altered copies. That would really help people trying to work around your imploding servers.
Thanks,

Download finally completed. It's really rough and doesn't seem entirely stable on my machine - most of the time once it finally started running the entire display was just black. Definitely still a long way behind minecraft (even earlier builds) as far as something to grab my interest.

Ye gods help them fund this. The last two goals... $100,000 - Liquids & Lava
We will create voxel based water which will be fully dynamic. Lava will also be created. Imagine gaint pools of water which you can manipulate by changing the terrain beneath. You can also flood areas of land. The player will also be able to dive and swim.
$125,000 - Dynamic Ecosystem
Inspired by the game Proteus, we would love to create a dynamic ecosystem in which during the daytime you experience a beautiful world that is full of life. Many different creatures will roam during the day, and they will mostly be friendly. On top of this, there will plenty of different alien trees and vegetation to discover, each with their own functions and purpose. This will be both an audio and visual experience. However, when the sun is goes down, all manners of foul carnivorous beasts will rise from the depths and try to eat the creatures that live by day.
$150,000 - Procedural Horror
We are big fans of games like Slender, Amnesia, and SCP-087. We'd love the opportunity to create our own version of procedural horror in the depths of Atlas. There will be infinite gameplay in the depths, and the farther you dig the harder, scarier, and sparser the creatures will become. Eventually, when you dig far enough down, you will eventually enter a very strong Electromagnetic Field. At this time any electronics you have will not work, and your shields will go down. There will also be some very twisted creatures down here that want nothing more then to play with you. We believe psychological horror works the best when the player does not know what to expect and feels their life is at risk, and we will code this to work in that way.
$175,000 - Companion A.I
Even though some of the creatures may be mean, why not develop an aspect that will allow the players to capture them, feed them, tame them, and then cuddle them? Errr.. well that last one is up to you. But who doesn't like pets. Especially if they can help defend you in battle. You will also be able to take your pet creatures and have them battle other players pets. On the the human side of things, we will allow you to hire townsfolk to help guard your estate, or just relax in your chambers.
$200,000 - Watercraft
Anchors away, Shiver me timbers - You gotta have your boats 'n Starforge! Never thought you'd be on a boat? Well, if we reach this goal you will see the day. We'll put in a jet-ski too.
$250,000 - Melee Physics
Create your own fight club. We'd like to integrate a full fighting system, so you have a variety of punches, kicks, blocks, and special attacks. With everything running in the Physics IK system each hit will feel real. We'd also make sure the melee weapons in StarForge are physics based, so you can experience axe to axe combat like never before!
$300,000 - Doomsday Events
Imagine you wake up one day from your cozy little fort and see a small little speck in the night sky that seems to be drawing near. A bit odd, but after going about your business, you pay no attention to it. Forests are cleared, guns are looted, and the days and weeks go by. But, then you notice the world is getting darker. Suddenly that speck is now a big asteroid on a collision course with the planet, and you only have days to get a nuke blasted into the center of it. This kind of doomsday scenario will make StarForge much more interesting. As would a great flood, or plague. We'd love to experiment with ways to destroy the planet.
$400,000 - Procedural Spaceships
We think it would be fun for the player to be able to design their own spaceships. That way you can make massive battleships, or small but nimble fighters. There would be no limit as to how big of a spaceship you can make so long as you have the resources required to build it.
$500,000 - Infinite Procedural Voxel Planets
Imagine a fully procedural universe. This is our ultimate vision for this game. Currently in Starforge, the planet is an infinite voxel terrain. And when you go to space it becomes smaller and smaller. However, it is not round in the sense that you can dig through it and end up the other side. We would love to not only have multiple planets in StarForge, but to also allow the player to visit each one. And each planet will be spherical and voxel based, meaning you can dig to it's core, then keep digging and end up on the other side. There will be infinite planets and players can colonize them all and travel in between them with no loading screens. We discussed this in great length and feel we would have no problem programming this, but it would take a considerable amount of time and resources to do so. As it would require us to reconfigure our 3D-Tileset, Physics, and Voxel Terrain to work with Spherical worlds.

If they actually wanted to hit $500k, they should've been on Kickstarter. Indiegogo is the crowd-funding ghetto.

It's more popular with non-US companies. Unless you think anywhere but the US is a ghetto

Only been playing 30 minutes or so, it feels really rough. I'm constantly fighting with the controls and if half the stuff in the Steam video is in the game I can't find it.
