Quote
Jason Russell, co-founder of the humanitarian group Invisible Children, was apparently intoxicated or under the influence of a controlled substance when he was arrested on Thursday on a street corner in San Diego, police said.
Police said they received several calls Thursday about a man in various stages of undress. He was reportedly running through traffic and screaming, dressed only in underwear, according to KNSD-TV.
San Diego police said that after his arrest, Russell was acting strangely and was transferred to a medical facility for further care.

Sounds like somebody had a bad acid trip.  What is it about some of these activist guys?  They do something good and then go out and act like total jackasses.

You do realize that this is about a month old?

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

Yeah, the park across the street had KONY 2012 flyers of various types plastered all over.  The trouble is, some were KONY 2012, some said STOP KONY etc.  It made it look like there were 2 or 3 sides to the issue.  Styling it like an election poster is a terrible idea.

It's deliberately styled like an election campaign.  The hipster way of saying the US only cares about political theater and not 'real issues.'

Then they are retarded.

"STOP KONY" is much better.

They are much better served with something like 'KONY KILLS BABIES'.  Trying to do an election style crossover only fails.

Kony should add himself to the ballot.  Watch him getting written in as our next president.  Thankfully we put laws in place on that shit a long time ago.

The Kony day of action was last Friday and it bombed horribly in Australia and elsewhere, if I'm reading reports correctly.

Apathy wins again.

Apathy, or widespread realisation that the entire Kony 2012 campaign was a load of bullshit marketing by a bunch of hipsters who got nice salaries out of it and are probably lined up for cushy jobs with bullshit descriptions like "leveraging social media blah blah"?

It was basically a scam, but also a great demonstration of how to target advertising at some very specific demographics.

I didn't see it talked about here and it was new to me.   why so serious?

As I understand it, the opposition to Kony (whom our government is now supporting in some fashion) is almost as bad.  I know very little about the whole deal, however.

It's almost like these dudes that made the video are a new breed of "jackass" video guys.  They're running a big scam on everyone.

Slactivism pays.

Only about a third of the money raised by Invisible Children goes to direct services in Africa. The rest goes to advocacy in the US ($3.8million) and salaries ($1.7million).

What a deal - create a nonprofit to raise money about some issue, collect money, send 1/3 off for the issue, and use the rest for "advocacy" and salaries.

Jason Russell's a charlatan, I think. A crazy one at that.

I daresay that if you were to look at some other charities, say Komen, that you'd find similar breakdowns of how money is used.  Most charities are less about getting money to the people that need it than I'd like.

That's the intention. The (retarded) mission of the charity is to make Kony famous like a presidential candidate, so that his crimes would also be made infamous, which would supposedly force world leaders to bring him to justice.

And the sad thing was that the Kony video delivered a kicking to Uganda's tourism industry, where it was a source of income to locals and recommended by Lonely Planet as a place to visit.

Tuned in, immediately get to watch cringey Ubisoft talking head offering her deepest sympathies to the families impacted by the Orlando shooting while flanked by a man in a giraffe suit and some sort of "horrifically garish neon costumes through the ages" exhibit or something.  We need to stop this fucking planet right now and sort some shit out. -Kail
