The statistics from Steam tend to disagree with some of this....

How is diablo III even showing up? This just seems more made up than people accused Sir Bruce's charts of being.

Unless you meant to link elsewhere, D3 is showing up because of it is in the category listed as "Top 10 Games to Buy Next" and not listed as a top 10 game currently being played. So D3 being there seems right as the criteria for the what to buy next section is as follows:

Source: Nielsen Video Game Tracking asks the following question every week among gamers: “Which video game are you most looking forward to buying next?”

What I found weird were the Top PC Game titles - all of them except WoW and LoL just seemed like bullshit.

The only ones that jump out at me as odd are GTA:San Andreas, LoTRO, and fucking Second Life.

Remember Warcraft 3 probably = DOTA, and Half-Life 2 probably means "all those games that run as HL2 mods".

Hanging Gardens of Babylon!

Big Fish is the Nintendo Wii of PC gaming.

HL2 is on there, too, which seems unlikely unless they're lumping in TF2 and CS:S.  And I've never even heard of "Hanging Gardens of Babylon" so I find it kind of unlikely that it's beating out Skyrim, Battlefield, and Call of Duty all at once during the holidays a month after their release.

That Big Fish stuff is crazy popular. Just not with 'core gamers' like us.

It mops up the bored housewives and empty nesters demographic. If you like time management games and hidden object games Big Fish is pretty much the only place you'll find something with a budget.

That's about what I figured as well after I made my post. After reading other people's replies I can understand the games not aimed at core gamers are there but I still don't get how GTA and LOTRO are on there vs Skyrim, SWTOR, etc.

Says it's for Dec. 2011, SWTOR wasn't out until the 20th of Dec. if I remember correctly.

There may also be time lag between data collection and reporting.

Correction, they're the Zynga of PC gaming. They're in the business of finding a formula and duplicating it, over and over again.

Doesn't Nielson have set participants?  It's not like they're going out and randomly sampling people.  I can imagine some oddities creeping up with gaming versus TV.

Hahahaha!  I'm really good at this!

The GTA: San Andreas thing may be because it was on Steam sale at least 2 or 3 times during the holidays for really cheap.
