They always kick over all the new sales/promo's at 10 AM, right?

JWIV's prices seem incorrect. Fable 3 is $12.50, Metro 2033 is $5, Portal 2 is $7.50. Might be others, going from memory.

Their service is getting SKULLFUCKED. I've been able to load the Portal/Valve page 3 or 4 times and Portal 2's price has gone from $14.99 to $7.49 and back.

I think I asked this last year and got a negative, but in case they've changed it: is there any way to delay sending these after buying them?  I'm looking to get Portal 2 as a christmas present for someone, but I don't want them to get it a week early.

I THINK some games have the option of buying them as a gift and not giving them now.  I'm not at home to look but I seem to remember seeing that option recently.

*edit* Holy crap, I've never seen the Steam site this bad.  I can't even login without getting a 503 error.

I just looked into delayed gifting this morning, here's the info I found:

Quote
How can I deliver the gift at a later date?
If you are interested in purchasing a subscription for someone as a gift but do not want it delivered until a later date, please purchase the game as a gift sent to your own email address.  As long as you do not redeem it, you will have a guest pass for this subscription on your account that can be resent at anytime.

Arg!  Thats big on my list as well, but I was away all weekend.  Here's hoping it comes up again during this sale.

Yes you can!  I purchased a second copy of Bastion when it went on sale, so I could send as a Christmas gift later.  Basically, buy the game, buy it as a gift, and then it will ask you if you want to hold it or send it immediately.  Just select the option to hold on to it, and you can then send it off later when you want.

And holy god yes, I've never seen steam do this.  Either the hardware people fucked up, or they are getting hit way worst than they ever have.  Which I guess is a great problem to have.

I think the flux in the Portal 2 Price might be because there is a Portal 2 (single item) and a Portal 2 2 pack (double item), and sometimes you see one, sometimes you see the other.

Metro 2033 was having a neat little bug earlier of being 0% off, so yah, I think the site is a little nuts right now.

There's more than just people slamming the servers. So many games are participating in the goddamn achievement thing, that most of you probably have 10-20 games trying to receive actual patches today to patch in their new shit for the Steam Christmas season (probably a requirement to be a flash deal for the month).

The whole situation is just a bandwidth hog. We can call it a bandwich.

I have a feeling, in an hour and 15 minutes, we may see the Christmas sales start.

Winner winner!

Looks like the usual summer/winter style sale.  With a new twist.  Some promotional thing where at the end of the sale one person gets to win the entire Steam Library.

I wonder how much disk space every single game on steam would use if you chose to install all of them at the same time.

Someone that can actually get to the list of games/achievements for contest entries should post a copy for the rest of us.

Its working fine for so I'm assuming you can get in as well.  But just in case, I copied and pasted this.  Objectives of the day:

Steam
Check your inventory - you've got a gift! - A Mobius Achievement: simply go to your Steam Inventory and see what you got, then we give you something else just for looking for that.

Orcs Must Die!
Deck the Halls - Complete the Hallway using only the Arrow Wall trap, weapons, and spells

Bunch of Heroes
Holiday Survivor - Survive up to the 20th wave in Santa's map

EDGE
Snowblind - Find the six hidden switches in the snow-covered levels in December

Cargo! The Quest for Gravity
2012 - it’s almost there - The Christmas bell tolls! You have been blessed with a present.

Anomaly: Warzone Earth
Santa's Challenge - Grab 20 Santa's gifts from missions 2-4 to get yourself a nice prize

Bah, stuck on the first one I try.  Getting around to trying Orcs Must Die at last, played the Hallway level (first level right?) normal difficulty, don't place any traps and just use my bow to beat it.  But no achievement.  Am I reading it wrong?

*edit* on my 3rd try when I actually used the arrow traps I got it, dunno.  swamp poop

Every game on Steam is probably tens of thousands of dollars of stuff.

And about 30% of that is probably railworks expansions.

I had zero problems beating it, it just didn't give me the achievement thing until I used the arrow traps in addition to my weapons.

Finally got in late in the day and got Portal 2 for the right price. I will definitely be getting more in dribs and drabs, depending on if somethings hit the dailies or not. The gifts are kind of cool. I got the original Half-Life and a coupon for 50% off Trine... after Jan. 2nd. Both are tradeable. Anyone want the Trine coupon?

Guess they are stress testing / using the coupon system. Got a 50% of valve games coupon. Of course since they happily discount their own games, and are slow to come out with new stuff, that's not terrible useful.

It's a good mechanic though. Will let magazines or other promotions offer coupon codes I'd suspect.

If anyone didn't receive gifts that they should have, or if your Steam inventory isn't showing up correctly, try loading up Portal 2 and go to the customization section of the co-op menu. As soon as I looked at those inventory items and exited the game, my Steam inventory updated as well.
