http://www.xenonauts.com/Xenonauts W.I.P. Geoscape Footage (HQ) Xenonauts is a single-player PC-only strategy game. Primarily a strategy game, it straddles several genres and is best described as a ‘planetary defence simulator'. The player is in control of an organisation tasked with defending the planet against extraterrestrial invasion; establishing bases all across the world that house aircraft, scientists, technicians and soldiers and using them to resarch and unlcok alien technology while defending the skies against alien incursion and striking at crashed UFOs or terror sites on the ground to capture new artefacts and technology to study.
The game is heavily inspired by the classic X-Com / UFO: Enemy Unknown, released in the mid-90s by the now-defunct Microprose. It is not a straight remake; though the core mechanics remain similar much has changed or been updated – so much so, in fact, that we prefer the term ‘reimagining’ to ‘remake’.

There's spawn protection inside your landing craft and in the immediate area around it so your cannon fodder elite marines can't be Higgins Boat'd the instant the hatch opens.. I'd probably put quotes around that "Faithful".

I don't really mind that TBH. It may be an improvement.

It's more a commentary on the attitudes of some people I know who mock X-Com homage devs that bitch about the 2k X-COM but then turn around and take out or lessen the "essence" of what makes X-Com X-Com, like the super fragile soldiers who can sometimes be massacred at the very beginning of a terror mission, leaving one lone, quivering grunt who has to attempt to finish the thing himself, making for a good story if he succeeds.
I can sort of see where they come from.

I enjoyed and played X-com series, but this title looks too much like death by menus. Is there actual game behind all these menus?

Eternity is a very long time, especially towards the end.

This is what I remember, and enjoyed, about x-com. I felt attached to my soldiers because one mistake could kill them. Although, I also raged whenever one was zombiefied/turned into an alien time bomb.
