Just signed up - the website said I won't get in until tomorrow.

Persistent, changeable world very much appeals to me.

How's the gameplay? Hammered by the demand, or is it actually playable today?

It's playable.  Shatter is right in that being high prior to entry helps  awesome, for real

The best way I can describe it right now is an EVE Online sandbox, minus the PvP and space aspects.  You can train skills persistently when not in game...hell, you can manage alot about your character and stuff without ever stepping foot in.

So... 2D MMO based almost completely, from what I can tell, on crafting. Sounds like nothing I'd be interested in, yet it is strangely compelling. Name's Rathskeller if anyone playing wants to friend me up.

What the fuck is going on in that video.  Holy shit, I think it fried my brain.

Maybe it's because I'm hung over.

Nope, it has nothing to do with your "being hung over." That trailer is just clownshoes.

I played this game quite a bit in beta. It's... it's ridiculously charming. It's such a low impact game. I have no idea what the endgame goals are, outside of some nebulous 'everyone is working together towards some common goal to unlock new lands' or something.

It's cute, but they're going to crash and burn on the subscription thing. Should be plain cash shop.

I don't understand why anyone would subscribe.  I thought it was a cash shop.

I don't know how to garden.

I was running low on cash so I vendored a bunch of rocks that I mined.  I guess that's how to make money once the quest rewards run out?

Picked a bunch of unrelated skills based on time it takes to learn them.  No idea what I'm doing.

Strangely compelling in that icky compelling way mmos have.  I like playing with my avatar's looks though.  Lots of variation even without buying anything.

This is looking like a community-based game kinda sort like ATiTD is (but not as much).  I still haven't quite sussed it all out, but there is a lot more to this than a day or two of playing reveals.

I very much like the ability to learn stuff when I'm offline.

Getting a few ranks of both Gardening and Animal Kinship makes your life a lot easier trying to make food to sustain yourself off of.

Every time you train a new skill, you get a quest for it. Also at certain level thresholds. Once you're self sufficient on food it becomes a lot easier.

Ran into a big group of players at the edge of the developed world - there was some big public event going on in phases that required players to collect/craft a bunch of items to build the next "street"

Useful info:

Glitch Wiki

There are a couple of tool vendors in the game.  (One is in Uralia.)  They buy things for 80% of value, as opposed to other vendors who buy at 70%.  There is a drink vendor in the spice tree part of Ix.  There is a food vendor in the Caverns where all the mines are (I forget the name of that place).  Auction prices for food are usually about what a tool vendor will pay.

Grocery vendors sell items I haven't found in the world.  I don't think those things can be made (or at least, made yet).

Produce is usually cheaper from produce vendors than auction.

Wood trees disappear when they get chopped.  If you see a wood tree in the wild, pet it and water it, but unless it's full grown (with 4 full limbs), don't harvest it.

Still really enjoying the game, but I'm thinking more and more they need to add more collective projects and long term goals a la ATITD. Adding a few streets just isn't going to be enough.

The forums are hilarious.  People bitching about a cocktail named "gurly drink" saying it violates the TOS.

This community could be trolled so easily.  (Not that I'm suggesting that, of course).

It's not just gardening, though; Glitch also has player-made hard drugs:

Quote
No-No Powder grants a player the No-No Powder Rush buff which gives unlimited mood and energy for six minutes of real time. After the No-No Powder Rush is over, the buff will be replaced with the debuff No-No Powder Crash which lasts six minutes, during which mood and energy will decrease as usual. To continue the rush the player will need to use another flap of No-No Powder. If they do not take another hit of powder within six minutes the crash debuff will expire and the player will die.

This game really is rather charming. I only wish it was a little more fun as well.

Played off and on for a few hours tonite; left the skill window up while raiding in WoW so I got to pick up a couple of the longer duration ones as well. Bought a cheap (4k) house and got a small farm going. I'm not really sure how you're supposed to make money yet; I've focused mostly on farming/animal skills to keep my energy up, but none of the things I can make sell for much at all. I'm guessing maybe mining is lucrative? I have the first level of it, and I'm going to grab the second over night since it takes 3 hours to learn. The only way I got the cash for my house and such is from questing, which seems to have gotten much slower as the things they want me to make take mats I don't have yet.

I played Glitch for about an hour during beta, but didn't bother to come back.

Some of the ideas are good - groups get more benefits from resource collection and the like than individuals - but it just isn't that interesting. I don't really have the time or inclination to fiddle around in a 2D sandbox to find the fun.

I enjoy the mindless low impact gameplay, but I have sort of run out of things to really do. It strikes me as a really great platform to build a game on, but not actually a game itself. It's like you played the tutorial in ATITD and learned how to make your bricks and build your compound and then were told to go find the fun without any of the higher end builds or challenges or creative systems.

Yeah I don't know how well the game will hold up in the long run, but so far It's still quite relaxing to make food, get those little "ding" rewards, grow crops, explore, be social. In a way it reminds me of what a 2D multiplayer Animal Crossing would feel like.

As far as making money, I'm sitting at 14K, after expenditures on a 4K home, 3 of the basic bags and one of the 16 slotters (2K). Just from quest money, and selling food at auction at a relaxed pace. I've heard mining is lucrative but I have yet to even try that. If you're patient and just play fairly frequently money doesn't seem to be an issue regardless of what you choose to focus on in the game.
