So, I guess I should start playing that sometime myself. How long does a first-time playthrough take?

40 hours?

40 if you breeze though mostly just the main quest.  70 hours is a better estimate, IMO.

cheezus. I'll probably never play this game then. I just don't have the time for the shallow mindless crap I play when I'm knees-deep in work, and when the holidays roll around I'll probably end up playing the Warcraft again for a month or so...

Plus that section is totally shorter than, say, the fucking deep roads.

Dammit!  I'm in the Deep Roads now!  Please tell me it's not longer than the Mage Tower.   Cry

Problem with Deep Roads is that 50% of the combat are just filler crap. And only 25% are required. The other 25% are side quest / loot material.
It's really depressing that there's nothing interesting in there. Just piles and piles of meatbags to farm for exp.

Well, we don't know how long he spent in the Fade. It could've been HOURS.

But yeah, it's longer. Orzammar just ... stretches on for an eternity. I like all the dwarfy politics stuff but yeah, they really had a weird amount of filler fighting and it gets pretty irksome, especially if you don't like the combat much.

You're doing it to kill the archdemon and see the FRUITS of your TREATY ENFORCING LABOR. Plus that section is totally shorter than, say, the fucking deep roads. And it's the VERY END. Do it once, for heaven's sake. Then you get the EPILOGUE.

Heh, I quit playing Fallout 3 at the final assault with the big robot dude.  I know it's pretty much the last thing in the game and I just can't make myself hit, "Let's go" and play out the last 5 minutes or whatever.

I actually never made it past that part in DA, literally made me quit the game.  I finally found whats her name I was looking for because I needed to find her so the other guy would help me back in the city.  ANd then for HER to help me I had to go to do something.  And I just said, you know what, the Darkspawn can have this world.  Quit the game, uninstalled.

Yeah the dwarves really took the whole plz halp thing to annoying levels.

Dwarves have no king, so you pick a dude.
Help that dude by doing something
Then you go to clearing out Dust Town
Then you start heading to the deep roads
Then you fight past a section.
Then you fight past a spider section.
Then, you fight past yet another section with trenches.
Then, you fight against a section of traps.
Then, you fight against the end boss. Except each THEN takes an hour.

Om my 3rd DA playthrough I was much, much faster at things and better at building the team than my 1st where I was the Spellsword mage laying waste to EVERYTHING solo.  I still quit when I got about 1/2 way through the Deep Roads because I was just damn bored and didn't care enough about my human rogue to see her die at the hands of the Archdemon (Which turns out didn't matter for DA2 anyway.  awesome, for real)

That's what SHE said!

I got stuck in the Fade for awhile longer than I should have because I foolishly believed you could solve any of the 5 sides first.  I am currently at the point where I keep crashing during the fight with UltraSpider, so at least it looks like I'm more than halfway through.   swamp poop

It's been a while, but I think ultraspider is halfway through the deep roads section. So yes, you are nearly done with the dwarves, it's just ... it still takes a long time.

But yeah, Orzammar is BY FAR the longest damn treaty section by a MILLION MILES. The elves are pretty quick at least!

If you add together the two sections for Redcliffe that's pretty long too.

That at least you can break up and not feel silly about it. Technically you can wander back and forth between Deep Roads sections but it feels stupid to do so.

Catassed the rest of the Deep Roads.  Couple of tough fights near the end, for sure.  And that was WAY more than 2 hours of hell, heh.

Now to wrap up a couple of loose ends and go visit Denerim with some friends.   awesome, for real

I found the elves *far* more irritating than the fade or the deep roads.

Possibly because they were elves. Possibly because it is less clear wtf you are supposed to do.

Actually, Denerim may be where my playthrough stalled...some stupid click on a map icon get ambushed for the nth time and I saw something shiny that didn't suck and never went back.

I'm doubly happy that I didn't buy Rift on Steam and that my true playing hours are covered by NDA. I'm probably in Nerf PLUS Falconeer land, heh.

Be interesting if the game had a /sittinginsanctumwaitingonqueues command instead of /played for Rift.  I bet that I spent more hours sitting idle in sanctum than I did playing the game.

You're no fun.   The last two months that I played, my small guild pretty much just chatted in sanctum, though we did run an occasional T2, raid dungeon, or WF when we had the bodies.  I'll bet that I spent more time in the wf's than anything.  I think 4 of my 5 toons were between rank 3 and rank 6 when I quit.

Someone's got to keep you honest!   why so serious?

I'd be interested to see if my sitting on my ass time > leveling time in WoW.  It wasn't in Rift because I didn't do instances and never hit max level.

edit: However, I really don't know just how fast you level.  You just seem to buzz saw through shit in the same time it takes me to read the quest text and find the shiny x on the map.

I guarantee that, while I do get a bit compulsive about leveling in MMO's, I'm an amateur compared to the professional catasses around here.  I'm certain that Draegan had a level 50 long before I did and his /played is at least an order of magnitude greater than mine.
