Awesome, my first game of the season is against the reigning champion. Oh well, I managed to hold him to a draw before, let's see if I can do at least as well again.

A satisfying, fun 2-2 tie with a 20/20 match rating. The rats got a surprise first strike thanks to a wizard and some hilarious first few turns bad rolling on my part. The rolls were capped by a two die block being rolled from a double push to double skulls.
After this, we had a half ending touchdown by Freight Train Joe (who leveled up, by the way) after some inexorable grinding by the orcs. All knotted up, 2-2, but with a decisive advantage (or so it seemed) to the orcs.
Itchers receive the second half kickoff and, while still being ground down, managed to rely on their Gutter Runners for some quick heroics. Their ball carrier got knocked down and Jerkface moved in to pick it up. This, of course, just meant that it was dropped. In turn, we had a Gutter Runner dodge and weave, pick the ball up, do a quick toss to an open receiver who ran it in nearly from mid-field.
Alas, it wasn't to last. There wasn't enough magic as a signature orc style victory unfolded with Extreme Pounding in the last few turns, capped by another orc score to tie it in the waning moments of the game.
(Yes, the orcs fucked up a short pass at least once)

Wizard, Mor Medix, a Brewmaiden and as many rerolls as I could lay my hands on.
I thought it was a really good game : Up moment for me was the scoring, which was nice ratty running style, Down moment was the ball just being there for the taking and the winning and my Ratty fell on his ass trying to get off the floor.
All in all, my rats spent most of the time on their backs. Just no stopping power at all.

It was a perfect illustration of why skaven games are so exciting. You can get pounded to dust, shoved around rudely and your Gutter Runners are still so amazing that you're never really out of it. I was entirely confident coming into the second half and we're talking an entirely different game if my thrower hadn't fucked the pick up after I shoved Ironwood's carrier to the dirt. As it is, I'm way lucky to have not lost 2-1.

Andy won 2-1, I thougt I'd be able to hold him to a draw at the end but some bad luck with block rolls meant I couldn't follow up to put tackle zones where they mattered. We started off with me kicking into a blizzard, Andy caged up and inched the ball down the field to score with one turn remaining. I had a poor first half, despite having a team where almost every player has block, I struggled to get anything other than pushes meanwhile every time Andy threw the dice he was getting Defender Down more often than not. I took some measure of revenge by finally causing an injury in the last turn of the half.
The blizzard ended in the second half and I pushed the ball into a cage and ran down one flank. Andy fireballed the cage knocking down the ball carrier and one of the corners. A bit of a scrap developed and I managed to snatch the ball up from the sideline and throw it out to an unmarked Witch Elf. Unfortunately I wasn't in a good position to prevent Andy from piling on the ball carrier so I was forced to score rather than run the clock down for a draw. With four turns left and a full team on the pitch, Andy pushed hard and scrambled the ball into the endzone to score the winner right on the whistle. I should have done better but I simply couldn't get his players to fall over and when I did, it largely made no difference - out of 33 armour rolls I only made 6 whereas he managed to beat my armour 12 times in 29 attempts. The only consolation was that his Halfling Chef only managed to steal a single reroll in each half - not that it mattered as neither of us really used rerolls too much.
At least I got that match out of the way early in the season. It can only get better from here.

game day 1,
The all dark elf showdown. With IainC a towering 690TV over me this was always going to be the hardest game of the division. I decided to take a Chef, wizard and Mr J Freshbreeze for his hypnogase. I was lucky enough to recieve and was able to throw alot of blocks (and passes) in the first half, removing 3(i think) of Iains players before HT, sadly for me only to a KO. I was able to score on turn 8 and snuf out any chance of a reply.
Second half a melee commenced and dispite a very good wizard strike i was unable to capitalise on popping the ball loose and 1 long bomb later i was all squared at 1-1. With 3 turns to score for a win i was able to smash a hole in the midfield and pour thru to cage up and score on turn 16. Final score 2-1. Current deathtoll 0, serious injuries suffered 1 (he's only MNG but i'm playing under str for game day 2). Is this going to be a repeate of last season?

Carnifex's Cripplers trounced the Nifty-ish Helmets 2-0. Um, not much to say about the game -- I was outplayed and outnumbered for most of the game and never even manage to make a dent in his skinks (on the plus side my only real injury would've been in the last turn when hunting for any SPP i rolled 3 dice against a skink and they all came up with the red death ... could have been a career ender for my beastman but i still had the apothecary).

Me and Gruntle are done with a 2-0 win for the Cripplers. The match got off to a very lucky start for me. I kicked and the ball landed in the tackle zones of my krox and one of my saurai. Gruntle managed to recover quite well and pulled the ball to the sideline. The superior speed of my lizardmen let me bog him down until a botched block on his part gave me a shot at the ball carrier. I rerolled and still managed to push him with my 2 die with block hit, but managed to swarm around his ball carrier. Then ha got another unlucky block at the begining of his next turn (thank God I thought to grease the bottom of his chaos warriors boots before the game), allowing me to knock him down and run in an easy turn 5 td. The last 3 round saw one of his three warriors badly hurt himself, my Krox ko his str4 beastman (who would remain out until the 16th turn) and his claw beastman puttin a saurus out for this game and next.
The 2nd half started with a deep kick to my side wich I eventually ran up the right sideline after one of my skinks actually picked it up in rd 10. He did a good job tying me up for a few rounds until my ball carrier could try a hand off to another skink wich would have almost garunteed me a score the next round if it had been succesful.......if. The result was the ball laying in the middle of the pitch while we both took turns bashing each other and failing pickup and catch rolls. Eventually a CRAZY dodge attempt (into 3 tzs and -1 from prehensile tail) went horribly wrong for him and popped the ball into the open where a skink managed to pick it up and roll in for the closing td. Gruntle had terrible blocking dice through out the match, so it was only fitting that the match ended with his str4 beastman getting 3 skulls agains my skink, breaking armor and earning what would have been a niggling injury without his apothecary.

Burrowing Beetles tied the Mutiny 1-1. The Beetles nearly lost, mainly due to the rain and wasting the first four turns (and 3 rerolls) failing to pick up the ball, but the mummies managed to knock the ball loose from the Norse deathgrip one turn from the end of the game and in shambling range of the endzone and somehow actually picked up the ball. I hope I never play another raining game with the Khemri. No Beetle casualties, and heavy Norse carnage, the worst of which was a dead level 2 werewolf. Match has been submitted to the thinger.

So I learned a few things.
a) Rainy games versus the khemri are HILARIOUS b) Tomb Guardian killing my level 2 werewolf (he had dodge!) is not c) I have already scored a touchdown, the rest of the season is a bonus as far as I'm concerned d) Rainy games versus the khemri are REALLY HILARIOUS e) Rainy games as the Norse could be less annoying f) Lady Luck can't decide how she feels about me g) Rainy games against the khemri are REALLY REALLY HILARIOUS
The Mutiny ties the Burrowing Beetles, 1-1!
EDIT: By the way, my touchdown? Totally bullshit. I knocked the ball out of a skeleton's hands, picked the bitch up, flung it towards my runner. My runner didn't catch it ... but my berserker standing next to him did, and then merrily made his go for it roll to get in the end zone on the next, final turn of the half. <3

My team value stands at 870, the lowest in the league, and two of my players will miss the next match. In addition, those players have a broken back and a smashed collarbone. I'm also church-mouse poor, which is ironic for Skaven, and can't afford to do anything about it.
In Hindsight, I did not get off as lightly as I thought.

1-0 Bashtards lose to Ulysees' lizards. While I certainly can't say much for my opening performance without playing any games since last season (kinda busy getting certified), my love of ringers in this league continues. Looking forward to losing to people I know instead of random Internet strangers. Also really tired of Lineorcs getting MVP, ffs.

Me and Sky just played our game and I scraped a 1-0 win so can take the rest of the season easy now that the main aim of scoring a touchdown has been acheived, getting a win is just a bonus.
Quite a bashy match with my main plan of trying to build some spp on my saurus's so i can get block in the team asap and the dice were not unkind to me with the main culprit of bashy turnovers the star player saurus who funny enough was the only guy who had block!.
First half didn't start to plan with me receiving the kick and in the first few moves trying to form my cage I run a saurus over the ball who promptly fails the pickup and I waste a reroll trying to recover that for the first turnover but it happened so early there were no really exploitable holes for Sky to rush his orcs through and I successsfully make my cage on the next turn and then the bashing and shuffling starts. Turn 4 I get a skink hand off and run him to the endzone hoping to burn some time but Sky gets some defence back forcing me to score on turn 5 but nuffle smiled on the kickoff with a riot pushing the turn clock forward so with only 2 turns to score and a decent kick to the back of the field the half ends 1-0 to me.
The kick-off for the second half begins with Sky getting a free move for all his players of 1 square allowing him to move a little into my half and mark one of my gaurding Saurus's and he forms his cage on the right side fo the field but after a couple of turns the drive is bogged down and I have a couple of players getting near to the ball carrier thinking with a little luck I can pop the ball loose soon and rush in a skink to run with it Sky proceeds to dump my marking Saurus's on their backsides and then moves his cage across the other side of the field with my Saurus's either marked or down my only cover is provided by our cute little useless for blocking shit skinks and I prepare for a can of skink whooping goodness to be unleashed.
Sky obliges and takes 2 skinks out of the game but I manage to free some of my Saurus's with lucky 1d block rolls that come off and bog him down very close to my endzone and with time running out and the route to the endzone now pretty well guarded Sky tries a pass/handoff that fails and the ball falls loose. I use my saurus's to bash up any orc near the ball and a skink picks it up and scurries up the pitch thereby securing the victory but not having enough time to score another touchdown I decide to spend the last 2 turns trying to build some SPP and bash anything standing though I don't cause any injuries in the final 2 turns.

So now I DO know how far I dropped, and I'm sitting at 850 with one of my berserkers out in my game against IainC. Thank God I got my goal of scoring a touchdown out of the way.
