The Empires of Ottoman and Troy were lost for such reasons.  Damned self-aware bytches!

Judgement Day in T2 was August 29th, 1997.

I used to give my older sister shit that the world was going to end on her birthday.

Should be Pacific Daylight Time. The movies and TV show are set in Los Angeles/California and SkyNet originates in LA.

A Turkish beauty informed me of this.  I responded much the same as you did, but she professes that Turkey is what it is today simply because of women.
Since she's a scheming skynet influenced she-bitch and was intoxicated at the time, I suppose relying on her historical accuracy was foolish.  I myself never heard of the Ottoman empire being lost due to female influence, but I wouldnt doubt it.  Sultans were horny bastards and were likely easily swayed by temptations of the flesh.

I'd say most people aren't self-aware, so it's not a pre-requisite.

So what's the next apocalypse date then? Mayans next year, obviously, then...Third Impact from Evangelion in 2015/16?

The Ottoman empire was dissolved because they fought on the wrong side of WWI.  Ask an Australian or Kiwi about it.

So the Ottoman Empire was dissolved as a result of some Serbs.

I guess if their mothers never had kids then WWI would never have happened and the Ottoman Empire would never have been dissolved. So she's partly right. Kinda. Vaguely.

The Ottoman empire was dissolving on its own anyways, WWI just put the final nail in the coffin.  Just like the Austro-Hungarian empire, really.

I read most of The Doomsday Code (free pdf download at www.wecanknow.com) yesterday.  Like all Biblical arguments, it appears convincing in many ways as it walks you through the links between scripture, the Biblical calendar and the modern calendar.  It is easy to skim most of its 384 pages and just jump to the juice.  That said, we all know the Bible contradicts itself often so without knowing the Bible cold myself, I am in no position to find counter-text to the argument.

There is a ton of numerology in the second half of the book which looks to me like someone working backwards.

Finally, the date of October 21, 2011 is chosen because it is the one Feast Day (Feast of Tabernacles) left that hasn't had a major biblical event so the author makes a HUGE assumption that the end of the world will happen on that feat day.  That leap alone makes the rest of the argument seem pointless.  If you are just going to assume in the end that Judgement Day will happen on the Feast of Tabernacles, then go right ahead.  But that feast day happens every year.

I have never played WoW.

Man, I Otto hit you for that one.

There's an easy way to see if the world ends in a month or not:  wait for it to happen.  You cannot affect the (non)historical events of the day, so it's pretty easy to do.
