The World's Worst Game: Curry or Covid

on: March 11, 2011, 05:09:36 PM

So...just saw this for pre-order on Steam.

Any particular thoughts? I loved 3 and played it to death and back, skipped 4, bought 5 + the Dwarf expansion and hardly played either.

3 is enshrined in my best games list. Most people got turned off of 4, but I really liked it, too (though nowhere near as much as 3). 5 for some reason I just never get very far in before getting distracted...it's awesome in 3D, too. Got to try it with the gtx 460, now that I think of it...

I'm a bit worried about the change in developer, since I was excited to see what Nival was going to do with the second iteration. I've been a Nival fan for a long time (Evil Islands ftw), and was happy to see them get a crack at HoMaM.

Finances will dictate a steam sale purchase even if it turns out good. If the new dev team can do it justice, it sits near the top of my wishlist.

u shd grab V at bargain price and decide whether to pick up VI based on your experience.

It's more of the same. Nothing's gonna change much. THe 3d campaign map does not add anything to the gameplay and they refuse to change the basic 'creeping' aspects of it. Creature designs have been quite...'uncreative' to be honest.

I'm curious as to how you know it's more of the same? I agree, but you seem to be asserting it. I think Nival probably wanted to put some sauce on it and got the smackdown. Thing is...all they need to do is remake HoMaM 3 Complete in the new engine and we'd all be happy.

The Creeping aspect doesn't change from Heroes V, you got a small army, you run around, whack critters, hopefully it's not a shooter type that causes casualty to your army!
Well, well, two hours later you have a hero and army powerful enough to kick ass. Let's meet your enemy at the castle. Final battle commences.

Final battle ends. You win! Yay!

I heard they're going to remove several types of resources from the game, so it'll be just gold and crystal. Oh, well. I'll be amazed if they can fix the 3D map.
The only radical change they made to the series wasn't by Nival, it was Heroes IV where heroes can literally kick a dragon's butt with the right gear and level.

The one thing that always annoyed me in these games was the AI's utter refusal to concede. Sure, my army is lollerskates powerful, but they can continue to be a thorn in my side by continually sniping at far-flung towns.

I think the core of the game, somewhere is flawed. They did add a shit ton of unique features for each faction that adds variety to the gameplay, but it wasn't really enough to keep me going after a week of playing it. The campaign was boring and random maps got old quick. I couldn't find anyway to multi-play and it gathers dust now.

Per usual, the first bit of the thread is people bitching about DRM. Skip about two thirds of the way down to get into impressions.

This is basically the game.  You either want hours upon hours of this or you don't.
