[Raging Turtle]

Great movie, hilarious movie, probably the best Disney movie I've seen in a decade.  Voice acting is top-notch, 3D never got in the way like it does in some movies, and the animation is amazing - other than the characters looking a little plastic at parts, it was probably the best I've seen in an CG film. 

My only complaint is that the ending felt a little rushed, and if you don't like the typical Disney plot you may not like this one.  Also, every single preview they played before the movie started looked horrible. 

Worth seeing in theaters.

I found it generic, predictable, uninspired and forgetable. That said, it's light-hearted fun for the whole family and I agree with the turtle: Best animated film Disney has done since I don't know when. The animation is astounding, a direct translation of standard Disney character design into 3D, and with hair effects that must be seen to be believed. Many times I forgot I was watching CG.

No good songs, though. They're all the operetta tripe that's haunted these things for decades. No melodies you'll be singing on the way out, and no songs with themes universal enough to keep the lyrics in your head for more than 30 to 45 seconds. Beauty and the Beast it is NOT. Fits very well into the Disney Princess Merchandising Bonanza, though. I imagine it'll make a lot of money and there'll be a small Disneyland ride related to the chase scene.

Not as great as OP suggests but not as run of the mill as above.  Songs were all forgettable, true.

Definitely retro Disney which was sort of refreshing. Are you seriously complaining about the predictability of the plot of a faerie tale? Anyways, I agree that the music was not memorable but some good voiceover work, comedic elements and animation made it enjoyable enough. My six year old liked it.

Yes. One can reveal even the most familiar fairy tale in new and surprising ways. Instead, this film loaded up the first fifteen minutes with all the exposition and character development it would ever have. Only the love interest gets a genuine transition... from self-centered asshole gentleman rogue to self-centered roguish gentleman asshole. The ending has the single inspired moment, but by that point it felt shoe-horned in.

Maybe my expectations were high, though I've no reason why they would be. To be fair, I was surprised and pleased that actors were chosen for their voices rather than being a Dreamworks menagerie of A and B list celebrities (Who knew Chuck could sing?). I did laugh out loud a couple times. The Disney Feature Animation bar has been set pretty low, and so this cleared with ease. It just didn't have the depth, zany imagination, and wry risk-taking of even Pixar's weakest entries. If Tangled wanted to save the fumbling studio, a shining example of their craft for their 50th animated film, I felt it should have been better.

Composer is the same as the aforementioned Beauty and the Beast, so perhaps he just had a down movie.

My main misgiving is that it's entertaining but I can practically see the market research up on screen. This is something Pixar has mostly not done, largely by making their films far more creator-driven. I don't think market research would give the go ahead to a film for kids about a rat who wants to be a five-star chef in Paris. That's the line non-Pixar Disney and Dreamworks can't seem to cross.

Hmm?  Must be an issue with your Theatre's booking then.  Cause the theatre I work at got it in both Digital 3D and Old Fashion 35mm.

Ah, I see what the problem is.  Hollywood.com is only listing the Disney D3D showtimes for this movie. Usually they'll list that and then the 2d viewings on the other screens. Instead, they're showing only the 3d as being available for my theater unless you do a search for the theater itself. Sneaky bastards.

This movie is certainly not worth paying a 3D premium for.  There are maybe 7 3D moments and they are all insignificant.

The local Disney shop randomly gave us free tickets so went to the UK Premiere of this.  First 3D movie I've seen since the crap red-blue glasses phase years ago that never worked for me, maybe 3D isn't a complete waste of time.  

Anyway, Tangled itself was pretty good, not quite up to Pixar standards but was pretty close.  Daughter loved it, even wore the special glasses for the 2nd half, will see how it stands up on twentieth viewing when the blu ray comes out.

I took my daughter to it and we both enjoyed it. I'd say it's the best Disney film since the period that started with the Little Mermaid and ended around the time of Mulan.

I really have mixed feelings about it being CGI though. Don't get me wrong, I love well-done CGI but I feel there is still a place for traditional animation.

We got the the other day for the boy, and he absolutely loves it.  I have to say that I too felt that it was a bit "generic" in feel when I first saw it, but have come around to think that it's pretty spectacular.  They picked some good voice actors for the leads and Maximus kicks ass.

AHA!  Another fan of The Black Hole!  I love the Cygnus, John Barry's score and the climax with the running and the shooting and the screaming.  I may rent it on Amazon.com.  Not out on Blu-Ray yet I don't think. :(

Haven't seen Tangled yet.
