The most astonishing thing about that article? The assertion that the queen has a £125M stamp collection  swamp poop

The Queen’s personal stamp collection housed at St James’ Palace is one of the finest in the world and is estimated to be worth well in excess of £100 million.

Girl likes pictures of herself. And like most modern facebook using girls she's pulling the same pose in every single one.

Well I never, you learn something new every day eh. I'm just amazed that it's worth more than the jewels or the property.

Fun read though, SW never disappoints.  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

That will be based on her own jewels, not the Crown Jewels, in case anyone is wondering. A century or so of the finest the likes of Cartier and Gerrards have to offer, most of which would be gifts or hand-me-downs from recent generations. The Royals don't commission too many pieces in the general scheme of things, compared with nouveau riche billionaires.  You couldn't value the Crown Jewels any more than you could value the market value of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue but the Koh-i-Noor would have to be worth hundreds of millions.

The property thing is way out too. Before the crash there were £80m houses in London let alone, Balmoral and Sandringham would see most of the Middle East, East European and Asian Forbes rich list in a bidding war.

For those not keeping track the couple set a most auspicious date for their nuptuals, the 29th of April.

Also known as Adolph Hitler and Eva Braun's 66th wedding anniversary.   Whoops.

Yes, it's old news but nobody'd mentioned it so I thought I would since there's a thread for it and all.

Thus proving my earlier post in Politics where I said "nobody's going to give a shit about Nazis some day."   Apparently it was sooner than I thought.

Really?  There's a list of dates that you can't get married on, can I see the full list?

I keep coming back to this post in hopes of some bikini pics of Kate or something.  I'll try again tomorrow.

Apparently her new nickname is Kate Middleclass Well it's new to me. Also a friend who's in the RAF informed me apparently Prince William is very quiet and generally quite solitary, to the point that people would suddenly realise the guy in the corner was the Prince and all have an, "Oh shit what did I just say over the last five minutes?" moment. Which strikes me as kind of sad.

Actually, why would that be sad?  I mean, if he were pushy about making sure all and sundry around knew he was the prince and was graciously gracing them with his presence, people would be complaining about that.  Nothing wrong with being quiet and keeping to yourself, more or less.  Unless he's going out of his way to avoid talking to people for some reason; that would be something to wonder about.  Plus, it's amazing what you can find out when you spend more time listening instead of acting the star.  *shrug*

As for the wedding date - meh.  There are connections to dates all over the place, good and bad.  No date they pick is going to be perfect, most likely.  I was amused hearing on the news this morning that poor Kate was going to need to rush to get a wedding dress picked out/made in time for April though.  It's not like the royal family doesn't either have a seamstress of some flavor on staff or the ability to just co-opt one or more to do the work.  She should just toss everyone for a loop and buy somehting off the rack, lol!

The current Queen is generally very restrained and doesn't talk much. For the role she fills it's a very good quality.

Thinking about it, Hitler was a bit of a dick getting married on the day Joan of Arc arrived to defeat the English at Orleans.

Sad in the sense that in that environment most officers are pretty loud and chummy with the others. From the description it seemed he didn't really felt like he could be, which is hardly surprising. It just sounded less like he was quiet and observant and more like he was shy in a way that typically you don't get to be in the RAF because if you don't like it you then you leave. There's a number of reasons for it (overly aware he can't say anything stupid, feels bad he can't do the stuff everyone else does, etc.) but it sounded to me like someone not very comfortable with where they were. And he's only there because he's The Man Who Will be King.

Seriously hoping that's the end of hearing about all this crap. I've been trying not to pay attention to this and have still gotten really sick of the coverage. If it wasn't for the Daily Show coverage I'd be entirely unhappy about it.

I paid just enough attention to it to confirm that Kate still managed to look hot in her dress.  Opening a web browser this morning was all I needed to do to confirm it.

I loved the Times, 10 pages of it in the front with an additional souvenir pull out, then felt the need to put a novelty face mask in for people bored with it.  Once every 30 years is fine with me, especially if they want to give me a couple of days off work for it.

I was working all night, so it was on the TV.

The queen's dress was, in fact, REMARKABLY yellow.

Also, hat fashions are beyond me, although I find the formal vestments of the Church of England almost as amusing as I do Catholic formal stuff.

I feel bad for the kid's choir, insofar as I'd imagine "Singing for the Prince's wedding" is sort of going to be a bunch of 11 year old singer's career peak.

That chick in the white dress? Yeah, I noticed her despite the TV having the sound off and being 20 feet away. (Worked all night).

I did stumble across a writer I like who liveblogged it, complete with things like "That hat looks like a stork was eaten by a serving dish" and "The bride has arrived. I haven't seen that much gratuitous train since Atlas Shrugged."

Mostly I worked and tried to decide what .NET book to order and making bets with myself on the shuttle launch. I think I chose a good one -- covers a bunch of 2.0 stuff I'm rusty at in addition to the 3.5 stuff. I could use the refresher.

That would be Kate's sister Pippa.
