It's not the same as the comic!
[/nerdrage]

... but lets face it - the comic would have been a dull movie.

Saw this last night.  It had me in tears in a few spots.   Hellen Mirren basically stole every scene she was in by being awesome.

That's what I expected, particularly after hearing the NPR reviewer say what a disappointing mess it was and how the acting abilities of the entire cast don't make up for the poor script.   My immediate reaction was "Guy, you're just too old."

The action set pieces were so clever and over the top that I found myself wondering who the director was.

Flightplan and The Time Traveler's Wife. Huh.

Okay... assistant directors? Ah ha.

First it has seventeen of them, second here's where you may know a few from: Daily Assistant Director, Third Assistant Director, First Assistant Director Second Unit

Do it.  Fucking awesome movie from start to finish.  Plot was predictable, but it just doesn't bother you.

Hell, not even the 'That's not how that works!' gun shit that generally aggravates the hell out of me didn't even bother me - the bit in the trailer shooting an RPG round and detonating it, for example.  RPGs don't arm themselves immediately, they have a distance trigger to prevent the shooter from accidentally blowing themselves up.  The moment the thought popped in to my head that it was bullshit, the movie immediately made me go "Eh, but who cares, this is AWESOME!"

Hell, I almost want to go see it again - this is everything the A-Team and stallones movie should have been, but better.

John Malkovich was a little TOO good in this movie.   DRILLING AND MANLINESS  He made everyone else look bad IMO.

Is there a movie he doesn't do that in, though?

Very fun movie. Turn off your brain, kick back, and watch elite actors in an otherwise campy action flick.

Very disappointed considering the cast, I thought this started well and then became a total tangle of stupid.

I don't understand why you would have gone in expecting anything else.  It's not as if the trailers were playing it up as an intricate intellectual thriller.

I watched it, got what I was expecting (brainless fun), and was satisfied.

I'm glad you liked it, I had high expectations given the talent involved.  Maybe it was the editing, but I don't think the last 3/4 of the film making some form of sense would have hurt the retired assassin bad-ass gimmick that much.

At what point did it stop makeing sense to you?  Cause everything made perfect sense to me.  I mean, sure, this isnt award winning plot writing here, but nothing ever seemed to drive right off the deep end into "where did the plot go" territory that i saw.

I posted in the thread again because I'd replied to the trailer with "looks good", I just wanted to correct that, not tell anyone else that they were wrong to enjoy it.  I'd like to pick plot holes but honestly, I've already forgotten most of it.

Plot was pedestrian,  premise was lame and did nothing to justify the plot.  More bullets were fired without hitting someone than in an entire season of TV's A-Team.  The characters were caricatures and the whole story defied belief. The faux sequel "what came after" at the end was lame slapstick that left a brief sour taste in my mouth.

But I greatly enjoyed the movie from beginning to plot resolution, liked the good guys and hated the bad guys, laughed at all the jokes, gags and punchlines, mourned the sad parts, and just generally had a rollicking good time.

I'll buy this when it comes out on dvd.

FINALLY saw this tonight... roommate got it as a free rental. I didn't realize how many big names were in the cast outside the trailer. It was a fun movie, plain and simple. And I agree... Malkovich really did steal the show and I am a-ok with that.
