I adore David Lynch but I don't see any David Lynch in that trailer. And yet it's the kind of bleak and desperate and confusing stuff that fuels me. I haven't been this hyped for an upcoming game since Dark Souls was announced.

It helps that this is not "a bizarre new game with strange trailers". It is a Kojima game.

Ugh. Sony is blocking crossplay for Fortnite, so anyone that signed up to play on PS4 can't use their account on Switch. Literally the only way around it is to make a new account for Switch use.

Not sure why this is surprising.  Sony has a successful (reasonably) robust online platform and Nintendo...  They're still Nintendo.

As a side note, I love the existence of the 'is it coming out on Switch?' crowd.

There's been a lot of outrage about Fortnite/PS4, but isn't that always the way it's been? Have you ever been able to transfer an account started on one console to another?

This is different. Your Fortnite account is an Epic account. However if you tie it to your PSN account you can no longer cross play with Xbox or Switch. I.e. if you start with a plain PC account, tie it to a PSN account you’ve now screwed yourself. Basically given Sony’s policy you should never ever play a cross play game on a PlayStation. And to be safe you should never get a cross platform game that might have cross play in the future on the PlayStation either.

It's certainly stupid, but really the only issue seems to be that you could link a PC account with a PS4 account in the first place; if Sony wants to gate their community, they shouldn't have ever allowed PC-PS4 account linking. There are tons of dumb issues with cross-play games (Ark Steam users unable to play with Xbone/Win10 users, or having to re-buy FFXIV when you want to play it on a new platform, etc.), and this one only seems like a big deal because Fortnite is the Next Big Thing (tm).

Sure. In this case though a Switch version was never planned, it literallly dropped as an E3 announcement and was available within an hour of the announcement. I’m not personally deeply invested in the game, though I did expect my purchases, skins and character progression would carry over because I paid for it.

The two issues are conflated by a lot of the reporting on the issue. Crossplay is one issue. Locked accounts are another.

In my case, I played 1 or 2 matches on PS4 total, then switched to PC to play and paid a little bit of money. I still had my same characters but because I one time linked my PS4 account with my Epic account I’m permanently locked from adding my Nintendo account. I can’t even delink the Sony part from my Epic account, all that does is cancel any purchases from the PS4 sales I made, but still doesn’t let me attach my Nintendo account.

Nobody really is claiming responsibility, but I can say I stopped playing the game because the whole fiasco left a bad taste in my mouth by both Epic and Sony. It just kinda tainted the experience for me.

I don't play so I don't know, but does one have the ability to unlink your Sony account from your Fortnite account, or are they bound forever?

If that's the case, I would sue for that ability. All out cross-play will never happen under Sony, but one should be able to take their Fortnite account with them to whatever platform they want to play on.

Hex has crossplay but not shared accounts. They'll probably lighten up on it in the next gen because PC is eating everyone's lunch.

Eh, it is what it is. I have a few artists friends who stream on twitch, so I don't mind too much. So many pointless updates, but it's a pretty minor annoyance imo.

Twitch app is nowhere near as bloated as Steam, which crashes within 10 minutes of start. Constantly updating with 1+ minute updates, multiple times per day.
