Anyone try Dreadnaughts? Got a beta key today. Worth downloading?
Wait which game? Dreadnought?

I actually won a Mercenary pack for that game, Dreadnought, and it was ok for a few tries at arena combat with giant ships. If you're looking for something deeper than just arena battles and ship customization tho, I really can't recommend it because the combat is kinda dominated by higher levels, the matchmaking was broken badly (long load times for unbalanced teams with leveled people mixed with novices) and not a whole load of variety.

If there was another game you meant, then disregard this message.

Is this particularly different than Fractured Space? I played it a bit at some point last year, and it was fun for a little while. With a half-decent team, snipers were ludicrous.

So officially the worst thing to happen in 2016: MS killed off minecraft.net/classic/play  ACK!

There is going to be rioting in libraries and schools.

I dunno, there's so much garbage in google results I'm not sure of the entire story.

A librarian here sent a group email with instructions on showing kids how to download a bootleg version of the game to play, as the site had disappeared. I dug enough to learn MS has pulled support for the free web version (which was older anyway) on November 29th.

I had to send an email telling people not to instruct children to download illegal software :\ She's new and I've already had to speak to her a few times about, you know, obeying the law...

Looking into the Education version, but the web version was so much easier for the library and the kids.

Fucking Microsoft.

That was the part I didn't realize.  I figured it out from context and chose not to further engage Sky.

From what I remember it was a very, very, VERY old alpha/beta version of Minecraft that's like... so old there's no enemies or Survival mode or anything.

Or at least that's how it was last time I saw it, but it's been years now.

It's almost exactly the same as Fractured Space.. It's arena combat with huge, lumbering, spaceships. Not a whole lot of depth, or replay value, and it was fun for a few matches (when not horribly imbalanced or spending 20 mins in queue). They had some kinda promo weekend this or last weekend, and there were tons of codes floating around to try this out.

So true... but not tonight, honey.

Mods being a pain in the ass is one reason I just play vanilla.

Along these lines, after some family physics my son purchased a game called Planet Centauri.  I only looked at the Steam page quickly.  Looks like someone wanted a Starbound that was less like No Man's Sky and more like Terraria.

I love mods... BUT... I do try to play through a game once (or at least until it's beginning to bore me) before I use them.  Except for weight limits.  I always get rid of that.  If there are mods that make the game look better, I use those too.  And hair... must have cool hair.  Cosmetic stuff isn't really cheating, though... so fashion.  I need to feel good about myself whilst I play games.  Console commands aren't cheating though, right?  Because they're right there, inside the game, waiting.  :)

Yea, I guess that's a grey area.  Just do what is fun.  Fun for me is not having a java-bomb because of some binary incompatibility, or even having to lift the hood of a piece of entertainment that I just want to enjoy.  I don't want to mod a game any more than I want to add scenes to a boring movie.  I mean, I wish the movie was better but I'm not going to make any improvements to it.

The various launcher programs handle all the backend shit for Minecraft, these days. Just find a pack that sounds interesting and you'll be playing in a few clicks.

It's not even launchers anymore for the most part.  Most everything decent shows up on the Curse one.  It's stupidly easy nowadays.

The Curse launcher is kind of shit though, if all you want is Minecraft. I prefer Technic if I'm going for easy to setup, or MultiMC if I feel like tinkering with mods.

Nintendo Switch pricing leaks in Italy. €399.98, which is about... $100 to $150 more than I expected it to be.

Hopefully it comes with extra controllers and the dock/stand and a power adapter and things like that.

We got a PSVR for the boy, so he's probably going to have to do something amazing to convince us to get a Switch.

My son got into playing Smash Bros for a bit. Was pretty nice to play with him, even if I had to play less than optimally.  Wife didn't even scoff at me getting him a Switch because buying a WiiU at this point would be a waste and building up a Wii library is pointless as well.

So, even though I'd rather have a PS4 or even an XBone, I'll take it.

I've just bowed to the inevitability of Curse, bloated shitware that it is.

But I also don't mind getting my hands dirty messing around with configs and adding/removing mods to fit the way I like to play.

I should probably check out the 7D2D mod scene at some point. The configs are really well done, good sorting and commenting in xml.

Looks like someone up there recently binge-watched Terminator and Black Mirror and mixed them together. "Nice!".

Anybody got any read on Tales of Zestiria? Most of the Steam reviews are positive. I ask because it's on the Humble Bundle today as the $15 tier and I'm considering getting the bundle because WH40K Eternal Crusade is on it at the $9 level and I figure that's a decent price to give it a try. I just don't know if Tales and the Project Cars DLC is worth the extra $6.

I haven't played it despite having owned it for like a year, but I hear it's one of the weaker ones in the more recent entries in the series.  The good one is supposedly the newest one.

I went ahead and splurged for the $15 package - figured $6 wouldn't kill me and I might like the game. I got it for Eternal Crusade anyway and that is.... special in a retarded sort of way. On first blush, it's not nearly as good as I hoped.

I actually got Tales of Zestiria on sale last Christmas and have been playing it off and on. It's not bad (bearing in mind that the last Tales game I played was Phantasia... on the SNES), but the combat is needlessly complex with convoluted systems-within-systems that are overwhelming and largely unnecessary unless you're playing on harder difficulties. The story isn't deep, and is as Anime Hero's Journey as it comes, but I like the characters well enough and the localization and English voice acting are good enough to keep on going with.

Even without a lot of context of the series, I can definitely see where people come from with the "weak entry" judgement.

I'm actually excited to try Berseria when I get a chance.

Thanks to this thread on RPG Codex, I downloaded the Arcanum "multiverse edition" (courtesy of russian modders; download link is in the quoted portion of the first post)  which is basically a repackaging of the original game (all the instructions included in the initial post are just to avoid saying "here is a repackaged, pirated version"), complete with all the patches, including the indispensable UAP by Drog Black Tooth. So, no more wandering around downloading from different websites while encountering dead links.

In the same thread, head to this post for a fine quickstart that will let you try the game  out in no time (works flawlessly....as flawlessly as Arcanum can go :P).
