If the F13 WoT playerbase is anything to go on, yes, males do spend money on some f2p games. I think Abagadro gave up drinking scotch to afford the WoT bill, though he claims 'health reasons'.  |

I've spent a "reasonable" amount on Path of Exile. I have a lot of storage tabs. All full of bullshit. Also a "severed head" helmet cosmetic which is kinda kickass on my necromancer.

I've spent some on PoE as well, but I don't think I've broken the $60 "real game price" threshold. Even if I had, I've more than gotten my money's worth.

People, the problem here is that you have like 5 examples of "F2P games dudes play and spend big money on:" Hearthstone, WoT, PoE, League of Legends, and uhhh TF2?
Whereas with women, it's an ENTIRE GIANT MARKET WITH HUNDREDS OF GAMES THAT ARE UNIVERSALLY UTTER GARBAGE.
Of which King is the King of, and Zynga has become Queen (with Poker, Slots, and Ville).

Note, I'm sure there are more, but this King purchase is about women and horrible, horrible practices (it's right up Kotick's alley). It is not about expanding their current market.
It's also about a hilarious misunderstanding of their board and executive management about the longevity and ability of companies like this.

Duelyst is now in open beta. It's a turn based PvP game that blends some Magic the Gatrhering with any Tactical RPG out there. I haven't explored all of its intricacies but it certainly looks cool. https://duelyst.com/EDIT: Added trailer.I remember passing this up on KS because I didn't want to take the risk - I've been playing it and it's a load of fun. I still haven't hit that wall I hit with Hearthstone where I felt that I'd have to drop a lot of money just to have fun messing around with building decks. |

Yet there are people trading "Royal Founder" accounts for thousands of dollars. Development has also switched to a much more obvious Ultima Online 2 style, and here and there it is obvious that they are trying (hard) to bring some of that magic back. That said, as Gimfain said it is still behind on so many levels that it is hard to take it seriously, but there's definitely a bunch of people that is constantly supporting it and making it live quite well. So far, they have raised about 8 million dollars, which is not too shabby for the low quality of visuals they are polish they are aiming for anyway. Combat sucks, but it did so in UO too so it doesn't really matter for the target audience.

Raiinbow Six Siege is surprisingly cool, very cool. Borrowed "just enough" from MOBAs (Characters and special skills, 5v5) and applied it to a realistic, tactical FPS.

Except the word they used is "might" not "probably", and they're just speculating based on the same thing other people have been speculating on (a picture on the official Bloodborne Twitter feed which showed some boxes of Bloodborne, with a box of PS3 Demon's Souls on top). Hopefully it happens, but it's just speculation right now. Desctructoid doesn't have any insider information on this. |

I hate almost all post-process fullscreen effects. Ultimately the main thing they do is degrade overall image quality.
