Not sure if this will be available in the US, but if you like true crime or modern film noir, I'd recommend tracking it down. "Blue Murder" was a TV mini-series but works pretty well as shown on DVD. It is based on true events.

Roger Rogerson is one of the NSW's most decorated police officers. He's also bent, beating confessions out of suspects, running drugs and greenlighting sociopath Neddy Smith into running his own crime syndicate. "Blue Murder" follows the relationship of these two (and honest cop Mike Drury, but he's just dull) in what is a look at how the NSW Police operated from the 1970s and well into the 1980s. At the time the NSW apparently has the third largest police force in the English-speaking world and the corruption culture was endemic.

Richard Roxburgh plays Rogerson so well that even Rogerson's wife found him believable - it makes you wonder about all the missed opportunities Roxburgh's had in other films since he can be so good. Tony Martin as Neddy Smith is solid as always, although he has to play him across 20 odd years and with increasing symptoms of Parkinson's disease which doesn't always work.

It can be a little slow at times, but the interesting part is watching the rise and fall of the characters - Smith and Rogerson have an alliance of sorts, but Rogerson always sees himself as a good cop despite his actions. As the men get older, times change around them. Some of the program does let itself down a bit - the odd off-foley sound that was obviously put in post-production, some poor editing - but I think the production is strong enough to overcome that. Drury's story is the weakest part - the honest cop who is shot for not taking a bribe - and I don't think Steve Bastoni was a good enough actor to sell the emotional scenes, but he's not the main focus for the story either.
