Minecraft - f13 Server is: chugging along... again (Read OP)

I'd be willing to do an update, then freeze to release (or whatever). Been holding off and playing my 1.8.1 single player, mostly.

But didn't notch say there was a code freeze or some big update Oct 18th, or is that quote him changing his mind on that? I was planning on updating my copy then, but I'm game for whatever the server dictates :)

I think waiting for 1.9.4 is probably best, it will be coming in a couple days.  code freeze is still in effect on the 18th.  It's a freeze on new features.  Then it's bug fixing until Minecon which shouldn't be detrimental to terrain.  Checking to see how well the world updates is the big thing.  If it's super awful we'll still have the last save of 1.8.1 for Nix to salvage for us.

Single player is boring as hell, but the awesomeness of the ravines and caverns makes up for it somewhat.  As I pacify it, all the stairs and twists and loops make me feel like I'm walking in an Escher painting.

Careful with that, it will actually craft "as much as you can make" rather than "one full stack of the final result", and it has caused a lot of crashes on our server with full inventory and such, not to mention using up more materials than you intended. Maybe he's fixed that bug in 1.9 though.

Eh, not saying it doesn't happen. But I have never seen that, or at least, I am unaware it has happened. Come to think of it, that may explain a few things. Is this in 1.8 or 1.9?

It was a 1.8 bug that was fixed, for me at least, in 1.8.1.

It was a client bug in 1.8, where it happened in single player; that was fixed in 1.8.1 it still breaks servers though. Or at least our server. Also happens when you're shift clicking stuff around and try to put things into a full container.

I would be quite happy if people wanted to start playing 1.9 pre 4.  I'm building roads in 1.8 just because it's nice and relaxing. 

I was musing about different ideas for light designs for my road, and Bothrups suggested netherrock.  So I started working on the road from Bothrup's to my far away tower in the far away north.  Lit my 8th or so netherrock and the tree near it caught on fire!  Then a creeper appeared from nowhere and blew me up.  Since I had moved my bed but forgot to sleep in it (which was just as well since spawn is closer to Bothrup's than my far away tower in the far away north), I had to run back naked, was jumped by a spider who threw me off a bridge and drowned me, to save Bothrup's forest and the shiny diamond sword he'd given me earlier.

I made it  back in time.

Doing some experimenting in 1.9.4 w/ Jayseven on a local server.

Turns out that the simplest way to build a fast travel network is:
- build portal to nether
- protect portal with a cobblestone building if exposed to ghasts, etc
- travel > 128 coordinates in a straight line from the portal
- build a second portal
- end up > 1024 coordinates away in the real world
- rinse
- repeat

Definitely think we should do this after the 1.9.4 migration...

With Endermen no longer griefing blocks, I've decided I'll fill in their roll on the new server. Every now and then I will randomly pick up a block from someone's house, and then randomly move that block a couple paces away and replace it. I shall start at Samwise's place.

Updated Edit: For those who aren't checking the MC forum - Unless someone objects, the world will be frozen and a final backup taken tonight (Around midnight EST unless Trippy isn't around). Get your shit in order by then or let me know you can't make it. Bzalthek has offered to respawn inventories if you can remember what you had.
