But why would an XP bar look like chicken? I hadn't actually seen the screenshot, I was just speculating. Yea, probably a food bad *shrugs*. Keep in mind, I think hardcore mode in New Vegas is a huge improvement over Fallout 3, so I like that sort of thing. |

Before people get too worried, apparently the hunger bar is a feature of an upcoming hardcore difficulty. So much like monsters or no monsters. You will have a choice.

Leveling and permadeath coming in 1.8. http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/07/20/first-details-on-minecrafts-xp-system-notch-when-you-die-you-lose-all-levels-you-lose-all-xp/I am very much enjoying my single player Minecraft sandbox, and feel like I've just skimmed the surface. Haven't yet tried the maps people have made. I haven't tried multiplayer yet other than to pop into F13's server briefly and look around. Where do people play multiplayer survival mode? Pick a public server and go for it? I'm looking forward to a more game-type experience with the next patch. (I tried Terraria but didn't like it nearly as much as Minecraft). I have a quarry. I don't know why I enjoy digging a quarry but I do. I just discovered I can burn cobblestone and make it into stone to make natural looking buildings. I have so much distraction, running off in whatever direction strikes my fancy at the moment, that I have several things going at once. I have plenty to build with, at any rate. Is there any trick to finding a desert? I spawned in a forest area near a snowy area. I haven't gone off in a grand trek yet, but I do have a map and a compass. |

I play survival mode on a private friends only server. I can send you details if you want. Don't do public. However due to 1.8 potential to require a new server and map, traffic has been low lately. Expect it to pick up when 1.8 hits.

Is there any trick to finding a desert? I spawned in a forest area near a snowy area. I haven't gone off in a grand trek yet, but I do have a map and a compass.
Not really any sort of trick, just pick a direction and run. This is the map I play on with a few friends, the biomes pretty much just mix together randomly. |

http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Programs_and_editorsI haven't done it recently, so I don't know what works with the current version, I'd just use the list there as your guide and go with whichever looks like it will work with 1.7.x |

I don't run the server, Stewie does, so I'm not entirely sure what he used. That one I know is a very lite version compared to some of the maps earlier in this thread, which can take hours to generate.

The Map Program we were using on the little server where I explode Proudft used to take tens of hours and would chug the server to a standstill. It got better now and you can't even notice it's running and it seems to finish drastically faster. I have no idea on the details though, so I am a enormous help  |

If you're using external programs and playing on peaceful, I consider the results to be a giant MSPaint production. Sure, it looks pretty, and it has a ungodly ton of effort put into it, but without creepers dropping out of the sky, it's not really the same thing. Everyone knows Moria is full of creepers. All those fancy passages they made, silent and empty.  |

I tried a mapper called Tectonicus. It's way cool. Took 15 minutes to render my zoomable map (using the Google Maps api thingie). (It took me longer to remember how to use msdos to write the .bat program to run than to render my little world.)
The main reason I wanted to get a mapper is because I know I'm going to get lost, and I don't play on peaceful, and I carry a bed around. It's nice to get an overview.

You can actually make in-game maps, but they aren't as useful as most third-party tools.
