Congratulations?

Um. ok. I wasn't boasting, just saying, I think you guys are missing out on the full aspects of the game (not to mention, a big chunk of the game does not work with out mobs and the sink they provide). Someone asked what was different, and I added why I liked it.

Well, it can be fun if "inside" is big enough and you can keep working on stuff.  I can see it being fun to cooperate on building a giant castle or something, starting with the outer wall to keep the monsters out during the rest of the construction.  But you'd need to start the server with that mindset.  I can't imagine it'd be too fun to go back and retrofit the big highways to be monster-proof or put walls around all the various monuments.

Not just walls, you have to spam light sources inside to keep them from spawning in the magical darkness.  And that just looks like shit.

Edit: Retrofitting the Western Highway will be trivial.  It's mostly up to code already.

Initially (start of a brand new map), having monsters on is a bit hectic ... you're building for survival and gathering what you need to survive. Much like single player, once your initial needs are taken care of, the danger drops off quite a bit. A creeper takes a small chunk out of something now and again. I find it makes the day/night cycle actually matter a little bit.

I don't do a lot of hiding at night. I go where I will, dropping torches and killing anything that has the audacity to attack me. Rarely do I seem to be in any real danger (yeah, the time 3 zombies bum-rushed me is an exception).

Just another plus for this game ... you can play it as a game, you can play with it as a sandbox. There's no "right way" ... I just find, like Mrbloodworth, that I prefer having the monsters around.

Yeah, thats the issue as I see it as well.  Once a ton of non-monster proof building is in place introducing monsters is a recipe for disaster.

Yeah, I would not suggest just Turing it on. Just stating why I'm not playing on it.  As for the monster proofing makes things look like ass, not really. In fact, most of our stuff looks better because its also functional.

At night we usually craft, farm and make food and such. Because, food, armor, and logistics matter in this mode. We have exploration and outposts way out that are quite fun to travel to. The frontier aspect is quite addictive. Finding yourself telling others that "ill grab some supplies and leave in the morning" has its own charm with its implications.

We do have a few house rules (Like no structures that are not physically sound) but nothing major.

Yeah, I don't think I want to play on that kind of server.  If I wanted my game to be a chore I'd still be playing Wurm!  (low blow, I kid!)

Once the game elements are more developed I expect that's the way I'd want to play too, but at this point I'm sticking with the lego.

I should amend that.  It's awesome for people who aren't playing the true game and don't understand they're not having fun.

They were playing on a creative server. Some of the blocks you can't get in SMP like the Nether blocks you see around. So more than likely they just had access to every block in the game.

Was the lava dome provided by a single source block?  It looked as though it might be.

I'd never considered stacking fences to make poles or chains, but that is totally sweet and I'm stealing it.

Why do you guys feel the need to turn the mobs/no mobs debate into a holy war?  There are plenty of servers out there, and it's not as if someone is taking a shit in your front yard every time they turn peaceful mode on (or off).

You're confusing a little bit of snark for a holy war.  I don't like creepers.  I'll deal with them if they're turned on though.

Today is the 20th.

No other game in the history of games has baffled me as much as Minecraft in regards to why anyone would want to play it. It's virtual giant legos... that you have to farm... so you can build useless, ugly, buildings... that have no purpose what-so-ever. I just don't get it.

Seriously, they just need to add blocks with the alphabet, numbers, rudimentary math symbols and you guys would be playing a game designed for high schools to rehabilitate the mentally handicapped. No insult intended but somebody's got to call you guys out on this before you start showing up to Minecraft conventions in cosplay outfits made from various spray painted cardboard boxes because that's exactly where this is going.

I was thinking today that Minecraft is what I expected Lego Universe Online to be.
