I like the glass windows in the mine, pretty nifty. I dug out a moat and build a bridge on the way in to my little place. Tried to move the water via a tunnel to fill the lower two brick levels of the moat but alas it didn't work. You can see how the water flowed in about 10 bricks then stopped. I'm building a tower up that suspended via two columns, its the one on the right as you zone in. Thinking it might be possible to create a diving board or a start point for a rollercoaster.

That's mine. It was all part of the MINE, glass room and tunnels. I take it you found your way in.

Edit: Nightly backup/restart is done.

Does anyone know / can people confirm that the world state can be exported/loaded across updates?

Is all this effort going to go to waste if a new, better multiplayer version of the server comes out?

The developer has stated that people playing single player shouldn't get too attached to things because the basics of the world may change, invalidating saves. I'd assume this is more so the case with multiplayer, given its immaturity. I just assume anything I build is good practice for some grand masterpiece someday. The fun is in the journey, and all that jazz.

Works the same as SP, so it should persist across updates. Unless he changes something fundamental.

Edit: Plus above. I'm making the assumption people know it's still in Dev and anything can happen.

Also, keep in mind:

Quote
Please note, that no matter what anyone says, there's no way to currently make backups of the world without stopping the server. Everything stays in memory until the 'stop' command is done in the server. Only then will it save chunks to file before closing and then that world file can be copied as a "backup".

So, if the server crashes by itself, you lose everything from the last time the admin ran the 'stop' command. I try to restart my server a few times each day since it only brings down the server for 5 seconds max. However, since item persistance isn't in, everyone loses whatever they were holding. It's crappy, but this is the current situation with the current server software. Hopefully, this is the first thing Notch fixes in the next update.

And annoying griefing potential:
Quote
The item persistence .jar is client side and makes me hate you because sometimes you decide to be an ass and bring lava to my server to dump on everything.

I say 'you' to mean generally 'person that uses persistence. I wasn't singling you out. Are you the guy with the dinosaur skin?

The first part I assumed, so I've been stopping the server before my backups.

As for the second, what? Does this mean they can copy their persistence .jar from SP and it brings items over to MP? or...?

I took a Cartographer picture of our world as it is the last time the server saved the chunks.

I'm going to be picking this up sometime this week after I get the billing sorted out.  I look forward to playing with you all :).  Also, NiX can you PM me the server info so I can play when I get it up and running?

The ? ? ? ? was me. Playing around the first night and thats where I ended up building some stuff unable to find anyone. Feel free to destroy it.

Also right behind my ramp to the sky is a yellow brick you can kinda see that's Tairnyn's fortress.

You're going to abandon it? I wandered pretty far in and was impressed. I'd build a bridge to Tairnyn's dragon monument.

I think i left it as a road to no where, yeah I'm going to give up on it and start in on a cart transport from my ramp.

This is the 3d dot dragon I made overlooking the harbor. I removed the blocks under it to make it look like it was flying, but I think I liked it perched on the edge better. The lack of colored types of blocks makes it difficult to get contrast, but I know there's plans to add dyes for cloth block, which will be awesome.

Tried the single player a bit with the texture pack NiX linked.  The first nightfall had me falling down a ditch and dying to a spider when I lost vision.  I then constructed a mighty island fortress to protect me and my subjects from further harm.

On a side note, how did you get that cartographer picture of the f13 world?  Is that functionality built in or is there some addon or 3rd party program?  I really like it either way.

3rd party app found here.

Server down while I download TV shows. Figured I'd just put her down instead of lag anyone on to death. Should be back up in 10-15 minutes.

Woo! Single player spelunking! I spent about 5 hours playing this.

Initially, I found a small cave with a monster spawner and treasure chest (this is a secret/bonus area apparently). Pull up the chest, and there's a hole underneath leading to an extensive cave complex. The monster spawner room became my camp and I dive right in. I haven't completely mapped the cave yet, but I've put about 200 torches in it. I found diamond and redstone wayyyy in. It's fun!

To assist, I use 2 torches together to indicate the way home when it branches/forks, but in general, 'up' is the way back. If there's a dead end, I block off a chest-height railing section to indicate that it's been scouted/cleaned out.

Server is down for migration to a dedicated server. We're testing this out to see how well it works. It'll be running off the West Coast and once I get the IP to connect I'll start sending it to those I know use the server.

This game is awesome, I've just spent a few hours when I should have been sleeping hollowing out a mountain I'll sheath in stone to turn into a huge fortress.  I think I have just found my crack.

Please send me the IP for the f13 server when its set up  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

Yay, do you need any donations/support for the server cost?

Continued playing with the furnace more after you left and its still broken, server spawned one did the same as user created. Any crafting would progress half way via the arrow and stop. Apparently it's a known bug in SMP but the only reliable fix for crafting via furnace is inside Llamacraft server mod.

We'll wait on the donations/support as this is just a test to see how well this runs on Trippy's server. If it ends up being too taxing I'll rent a VPS or even a dedicated if need be and enough people show sustained interest.

I'll see if that can be applied to ours when it goes up, though I don't want to be too pushy with adding stuff.

Do I smell a water park coming on?

Water is too finicky at the moment.  It's a bitch trying to get it to go where you want it.

It's not a liquid anymore, which is why it's so hard to make it do anything. I need to post a list of things that tax the server. Created large amounts of water that involves lots of moving (waterfall) can cause some serious strain.

I read that the current server version hasn't implemented storage which is why furnaces don't work. It requires storing the materials temporarily inside the furnace. Also chests don't work if you log off, same reason. I made the mistake of putting a bunch of shit in one to restart the client. Poof.

I have to see if Trippy can load the custom server wrapper to get furnaces working, but yeah, chests don't work. We can look at adding a wrapper that allows item spawning, but that can lead to issues with people over spawning stuff and forgetting how much some of it can tax the server.

Seems quick NiX. The chunk updates were very quick, no noticable movement lag, but well the minecraft generally falls down under a load of 2+ users. So hopefully tonight there will be a few more people constructing.

The guy writing Llamacraft has a kludge fix. He's also written in a command /lighter so in conjunction with fixed furnace that would open up a lot of building as you can finally craft iron. No rush, having a server is better then none. Thanks Trippy for hosting, the RAM requirements killed me even thinking of offering up my linode.
