Lewt or "Shiny" (shiney is used by many a people, including above - it's not a word)= Item.

Just to keep flagellating the room-temperature equine, I'm well aware that the muggle word "shiny" is spelled as such.  As a matter of fact, to use it in a sentence, shiney is often shiny.

In other news, the word "pwn" actually starts with an o and not a p, and Lewt is spelled with two o's in the middle rather than "ew".

Oh no no, you completely missed the point. I should elaborate though. I don't have a problem with accurately misspelled words. But lewt and loot are completely different. You can't lewt a house. But you can loot a house. You see, lewt is what you'd get from looting a house.

Pwn and own are also 2 different things. See where I'm going with this? Shiny and Shiney aren't. The second is just a fucked up internet way of spelling it.

Edit: Removed a Gollum reference. Wasn't funny.

As long as we're using completely un-authoritative wonders of the web. Here's Urbandictionary's.

Quote from: Urban Dictionary
1. foozle

Generic title of the final boss character in any game, although most likely used when describing a game that is generic or cliche in nature.
So I collect these 8 crystals and kill the big foozle? Damn, so much for an innovative RPG...

The first time I saw the term was Computer Gaming World, circa 1994, Scorpia's column.  She explained it as the bad guy at the end of an adventure game.   Your game wasn't exactly considered innovative if the ultimate goal was "kill foozle".  Yea progress?

Anyway, I assumed she coined the term.  But it may go back further than that.  Any grognards (more lingo!) willing to corroborate?

I don't know if she coined it, but she certainly popularized it. That was the first time I had heard it when she started using it in her reviews.  Ahh, the good old days of CGW...

AFAIK Foozle was the name of a wizard in a very old DnD game (possibly pnp dnd).

So it was questing to kill foozle, and then as internet vocab trends are wont to do, many retards heard some one use it, and then tried to use the same word, with out knowing the origin, and ended up getting it wrong, but then  some one else heard them use it, and so on. Now foozle means random_npc_001.

So I guess you guys can all hug, and have the satisfaction of knowning that, yes, you are right. And just like mommy told you, you are also special.

This thread isn't very epic at all.

Have you tried the internet? It's made out of millions of people missing the point of everything and then getting angry about it

I have a wonderful attitude... it's everyone else here who has fallen down the crapper, of late.  Between the SirBruce poll, which has turned into the silliest thing I've ever seen, and the DV/TW (are they "together"?) boring blog insanity,  I'm surprised everyone isn't sporting mass murderer/serial killer avatars.  Oh... and let's not fail to mention the great steaming piles of poo the Oscar thread has turned into... quite a gem we have there.

Yes, I think your choice of avatar for me is pretty appropriate, too.  I just like mine better... it's more artsy fartsy.  Crapping all over f13 or flinging boogers at it with my fuck you finger is all pretty much the same idea, anyway.

Not that I mind so much.  I'm just sayin'....

I think this decline is partially attributable to the season.  We're in the post-release winter doldrums, when there are few new games on the immediate horizon.  People are irritable from the short days, and there is a full moon.  The great "WoW vs. EQ2" debate has been resolved firmly in favor of Blizzard, and everybody has settled into the everyday gameplay routine, aiming for their WoW epic quests or whatever.

All in all, a good time to get some real life work done.

How good can you feel about a win when you get it by virtue of the fact that you suck less?

I don't know a better way to say it.  WoW is the best fantasy mmog released to date.  It won the title primarily by sucking less than those that came before it.  As a reward, I imagine the genre will continue to see the same shitty constructs piled into derivatives with more shiney and less suck.  Seems like a death spiral to define the quality of a game by how much less of the suck it had than the games before it.  Here's hoping that there are still some investors willing to back a good idea (i.e. take a risk) rather than staying with formulaic, watered-down mass appeal with less suck.

Is this an obtuse reference to myself?  As I've said before, my MMOG tastes will advance beyond 1997 as soon as MMOG gameplay does likewise.  It sure is a long wait.

But yeah, if the class/level paradigm EQ popularized is your cup of tea, then I daresay WoW does it better than anyone else.  Here's a really shitty and tortured analogy:

UO is a taco stand, while every other mass-market MMOG is a burger joint.  WoW has the best burgers in the world, while UO's tacos are oftentimes chewy with wilted lettuce.  But you know, some of us just don't want any fucking hamburgers at all, and nobody is even trying to make a better taco.
