Nice, purple is such a lovely color. ;)

Now I want details. I want to know if you got rediculously lucky or lighter pockets to get that. Curiosity, ya know.

Yep, epic weapons are nice.  I really want one of the epic daggers or axes.  I've yet to get a purple drop, blues are rare enough in my case.

Hey, comeon, it's always funny when someone completely devalues a game because of the rarity of an item. WindUp knows full-well how ridiculous UO is...I hope.

I disagree. Foozle has been used many times to denote uber lewtz, as in "I camped the foozle of bumpfuzzling last night."

I've never seen it used to denote npcs, always lewtz.

Goddamnit Sky, you camp the mob that might drop the item - not the item. "I camped the foozle of bumpfuzzling" refers to the mob you were camping that may or may not drop the item. Foozle is most definately a mob or NPC. "The guy over there gave me a quest to whck 10 foozles." Not, "The guy over there gave me a quest to kill those orcs and I get a foozle in return."

Lewt or "Shiny" (shiney is used by many a people, including above - it's not a word)= Item.

Foozle = Miscellaneous baddy. People don't generally call Onyxia or whatever the epic dragon is named a 'foozle.' But everything in the cave leading up to her are 'foozles'

Catass Lewt-Whoring Camper = Righ.

Classic.

I got flashbacks of RP Nazis fighting teh ebil of powergamers on UO.com and stratics (wth happened to that place anyway? It used to be a great resource of guides back in the day, now it seems like just another mmog site lost amongst the crowd) forums. Was also fun on the uopowergamers forums when a RPer came to tell us how evil we were for breaking down loot tables and shit.

Then I thought of how much time I spent on a GODDAMN BOAT in the name of powergaming and I got depressed. Damn.

I have an epic bow. Being a warrior I only use it for pulling, and it is nice and fast for that purpose (1.6 second fire, 33DPS). However it really earns it's value in massively irritating hunters that I have it.

Both of your are wrong.  Sky is just more wrong.

Foozle has always been the interchangeable big bad guy at the end of the D&D module.

You do the quest, kill the foozle and get the McGuffin which leads to the next quest.

The big bad guy isn't called a foozle in modern MMOG terms. Foozles are everything except the big bad guy. 3-5 years ago I would have aggreed with you. But the number of people using it the original (not necessarily correct) way have become so few, that the meaning has changed.

"Named Mob" is the new Foozle.
"Foozle" is the new Random_NPC_001.

Ok. Proving time.
Quote
vb. n. {Foozling}.] [Cf. G. fuseln to work badly or slowly.]
To bungle; to manage awkwardly; to treat or play
unskillfully; as, to foozle a stroke in golf.

Ok, so that's not the gaming term :) Here's one from gamedev.net:
Quote
A foozle is an object which a player must acquire and give to an NPC or use in a certain area to advance the plot.

Neener.
Then Wiki supports you.
Quote
Generic creature in a game that you kill (also known as MOBs) while on a levelling treadmill. Most famous are the bunnies of Asheron's Call (AC). Most infamous are the slugs of Fallen Age (FA). Also see mongbat for the UO variety.

Someone else thinks it means something else:
Quote
The Foozle definition breaks child violence down into behaviors we can recognize and work with. What are they?

jeanne's lecture notes on one plausible response:

There are Foozles named after each of the following behaviors:

blaming
bossing
getting even
grabbing
hitting
lying
making excuses
making threats
name calling
not listening
teasing
whining

I think I'll go with the last one, seems most appropriate, eh. But we're pretty much all correct, depending on who you listen to. Or all wrong and it's about screwing up on the golf course.

As long as we're using completely un-authoritative wonders of the web. Here's Urbandictionary's.

Quote from: Urban Dictionary
1. foozle

Generic title of the final boss character in any game, although most likely used when describing a game that is generic or cliche in nature.
So I collect these 8 crystals and kill the big foozle? Damn, so much for an innovative RPG...

The first time I saw the term was Computer Gaming World, circa 1994, Scorpia's column.  She explained it as the bad guy at the end of an adventure game.   Your game wasn't exactly considered innovative if the ultimate goal was "kill foozle".  Yea progress?

Anyway, I assumed she coined the term.  But it may go back further than that.  Any grognards (more lingo!) willing to corroborate?

Witty banter not included.

Hell, half the time I have my skill gain notices turned off entirely.  I refuse to "grind" for anything in an MMOG, which is probably why I don't play any that date later than 1997.

There's a "Raiders of the Lost Ark" quest in Uldaman, where you have to get an amulet, and mount it on a staff, and stick the staff on top of a model city, the way Indy found the ark in the movie.

There's a series of missions in Stranglethorn Vale surrounding an NPC called Col. Kurzen, which are loosely modeled on "Apocalypse Now"

Just to keep flagellating the room-temperature equine, I'm well aware that the muggle word "shiny" is spelled as such.  As a matter of fact, to use it in a sentence, shiney is often shiny.

In other news, the word "pwn" actually starts with an o and not a p, and Lewt is spelled with two o's in the middle rather than "ew".
