My god, I'm not going to see some friends for a very, very long time. Out of all the RTS games, this is perhaps the best for this format, with the emphasis on small squad, smart AI game play.

Company of Heroes Online delivers all the frenetic action and strategic combat from the critically-acclaimed series, while also offering unparalleled customization and personalization. Choose from six different combat doctrines, each with its own strengths and combat styles. Customize your army and enter each conflict with your own unique set of battle-tested Heroes, unit upgrades, and devastating Commander Abilities. Become the ultimate military commander as you unlock new abilities with every conflict and build your army with every victory.

And its F2P.  ACK!

I was super excited about this big squad based PvP WW2 game, and it just looks like a normal RTS except adding "levels" blllehhh

You know, when you say it like that, it kinda ignores the awesomeness and drastically different game play that CoH brought to the genre. While it does look like its the same game, that game was awesome, now its free (cash shop it seems) and with instant matchmaking.

If you liked CoH, whats not to like?

If you just want to play CoH for free, then cool.  However the title of this thread is "Company of Heroes MMO"  this evokes insanely different expectations than "CoH for free, with matchmaking"

I already play DoW2 online, so of course like this style of RTS, thats not my problem, just that when I clicked on this thread and went to their website, I had just expected something different than what it actually is.

I got my hopes up immediately.  Then I read the link and thought MEH.

NOT AN MMO.  (Trippy beat me)

NOT AN MMO Mob

Its not an MMORPG, but, really, how many games coming out of making the strict MMO definition irrelevant?

Move it if you like.

Well, the whole "massively" is missing. Matchmaking is, what, 2-6 players on an RTS? Unless its a whole open world where you get to deploy your troops in a theater and who knows who and how many other players will show up, its not Massive. Its, well, Battlenet.

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

None of this has been revealed yet, and I got my lead from various MMO focused sites. For all we know it could be a WWII giant euro persistent map broken down to individual matches/maps.

Would it qualify then? If not, some major pruning needs to happen in this forum then.

Anyway, title has been changed. Know I would have loved a WWIIO using COH/Savage like game play, but hay.. this isn't that game.

If it's BF1942 meets WWIIOL, then I'm in with a lifetime sub.

If it's RTS with matchmaking, then MEH.  Squad leader was the shit for squad-based, tactical WWII games.

Company of Heroes Online in Glorious Motion

Quote
The game is currently in open beta in Korea and will be going to open beta in China next, then it comes to the U.S. And the free game (the only thing that Relic and THQ plans to sell are "convenience items" that can speed up character leveling ) will support eight player online matches and will also include the full version of the single player Company of Heroes for free.

So no, not a MMO by any stretch. but, the entire single player campaign, for free?

Well shit if that isn't a good deal. I hope the the matches are not hosted locally anymore, that was a hog in 8 man maps.

There some hands on data in the link though. I just reused the title.

All this makes me think, will they be doing this with Homeworld and Dawn of War?  DRILLING AND MANLINESS

This. Except I never played Squad Leader.

Loves me some CoH, but yeah, if it's BNet I lose a lot of interest right there.  If you have a persistent battle group though that's intriguing.

Sometimes, it's better to not ask "what?" and just let things die. This is one of those times.
