Rented this, since the first one annoyed me to sin, but I keep hearing it's awesome.

So far, seems far less creepy/scary than round 1, but I just hit chapter 2.

I made the mistake of buying it at full price after hearing rave reviews on it, so I was VERY bitter about the poor mouse controls.  A shame because if the controls had been marginally less shitty I think I would have loved it.

I bought it on Steam for $10 and I am still bitter about the controls. Can anyone tell me if DS2 contorls better on the PC than the first one did. I am still amazed they managed to make a 3rd person game unplayable with M+KB.

I asked and I'm told it's better.  They also said make sure v-synch is off in the first one, as that caused massive problem.

That's all second hand, without much additional explanation.  YMMV.

Hahahaha!  I'm really good at this!

I actually picked up the first game at some fractional price on a steam sale.  Its very well done and fun, though I do understand the complains about the mouse control.  However, I guess I'm more patent than most people here, as I just told myself, "Eh, deal with it."  Been playing it a bunch, am almost at the end, and had a great time all along the way (though I have no cash or ammo left...).

Ammo drops (usually) based on the weapons you are carrying, so only carry a few weapons at a time.

Hmm, didn't think about that.  I mean, I noticed that the ammo drops seemed to be based on what I was carrying, but it never occurred to me to just carry fewer weapons than the maximum, heh.  Considering I only really use 2'ish, that would have worked out nice....

Got Dead Space 2 on the PC.  Never played the PC version of the first one, but so far I haven't had too many problems with the controls.  The only real issue I have is trying to use stasis or kenesis in the heat of battle, but iirc I had similar issues on the console with the first game.  Aside from that, so far it's more of the same.  I'm only a couple hours in, but so far the gameplay and monsters are all ripped directly from the first game.  That's not a terrible thing, as I loved Dead Space, but I expected more from the dev team than just a rehash of the first game, with a somewhat worse story (I'm not really diggin' the whole "you're going insane" stuff).

Not going. Gone.

Issac is batshit by the time the game starts. But that's what saves him and keeps him from completely losing his shit through the course of it. That said, I like it better than the first. The fixed the camera. It's not as scary though. Definitely an Alien/Aliens vibe.

I appreciate that Issac's personality is shaped by the events in the first game. He may be a little nuts now, but he's also pretty hardened and not really terrified anymore. It's more of a "what? This shit again? Alright FINE, someone give me a gun and I'll deal with it." especially as the game progresses and he gets progressively more fed up with the whole series of events.

I do wonder why the security forces were slaughtered though. The pulse rifle is awesome this time, you pansies.

Finished it a little while ago. I liked the story a lot. And I'm echoing the sentiment that the pulse rifle is kickass. Sprawl security must suck something awful. Oh wait, yeah, they do. I fucked them up something awful too.

Finally found a solution to the Dead Space one mouse problem that rendered it playable.  I have now completed it and I was actually quite impressed, despite myself.

I may get the second one now.

Um, Sorry, I just assumed with the age, people would know :

Turning off/on VSync in the game made no difference to me, nor mouse sensitivity, but what worked for me was using the ATI control panel (Nvidia has it's own that works) to mess with the AA and Vsync settings directly, ticking the 'override shitty application settings'.

This is still a little wanky in some smaller areas with massive 'roll and roll and roll the mouse' effects, but on the whole, it works quite well and makes it playable.  I suspect if it fixed the mouse look completely, it would make a perfect game, since it's actually quite a good remake of System Shock 2.  why so serious?

That said, part of me thinks if the controls were perfect, the actual game would be way too easy;  Currently replaying with the combat suit and all upgrades and, frankly, it's a bit of a joke.

Has anyone seen a subbed, non-blind LP of this yet?

Not really my type of game to play, but I'd like to watch it.

Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

Now I'm doubly bitter over the "INTERNET CONNECTION REQUIRED" bullshit. Ohhhhh, I see.

Well for Dead Space 1, you've got a near deserted ship, bad dead things coming after you, a story told mostly through logs, upgradeable weapons, "powers", etc.  For some reason, however, I'd consider this about as close to a System Shock 2 remake as Bioshock managed: not very.  I'm not sure something so on rails and combat heavy could be considered as such.  Still a fantastic game and very worth playing.

It's System Shock 2 crossed with Resident Evil 4.

In other words, it's rather good if you like derivative games.  That's not a criticism as I quite liked it once I could play it.

Bioshock, alas, isn't really a good comparison in my view, even though it's got shops and shit.  The 'powers' are limited to your Jedi pulling Shit and your Matrix slow time shit.  No shooting out Bees here.

Internet connection required ?  Um, I didn't get that...

Oh boy. Do not want to go forward.

I was about to rage quit near the end of Chapter 9. Died many times in the cargo area and the area after that was a bit frustrating as well. Otherwise my love for this game goes beyond the scares and at this point I would be happy just floating around its zero gravity environments cleaning space windows.

Good chapter there.  All in all I liked the game, but it wasn't a huge leap from the first one.
