My sister in law is in Austin visiting us and wants to get a some tattoo work done, Anyone know which of the 100 tattoo parlors in town she should go to?  Any tips on finding  good tattoo artist?  Also, BBQ this Saturday (tritip) if any f13'ers in the area want to come just PM me for directions.

I got a tattoo across my chest done a few months ago by Tina at Resurrection Tattoo on S. Lamar. Real happy with the tattoo, place was clean, I believe I paid $100/hr. I'll probably be going to back for another one from her before too long.

Edit: Picture of my tattoo, ignore the smallest nipples ever known to man.

Did you bring in the art, descrine the art and have them draw it or pick from a book of precanned stuff?

And I now have somewhere local to get a tattoo. Unless Big Gulp wants to visit.

I'm allergic to BBQ (sauce).

I'll be celebrating my California roots and cooking blackened tritip no sauce (home made dry rub and marinade).

I think I would kill myself if I lived here and was allergic to BBQ sauce.

What in BBQ sauce are you allergic to?  Is it a contact type allergy or will it make you sick?  I have a sad sad sad contact allergy to some foods, including good, dark cocoa, which means I can't eat nice chocolate.    It makes my gums, inside my mouth and nose itch like crazy for about 15 - 20 minutes.  Especially my gums.   But that's it.  It doesn't give me hives or make me ill.  Same things happens with Brazil nuts, raw coconut, and some other nuts.  It's annoying.

Power through it, I'd say.  Show that allergy who's the damn boss.

Just do cocaine before you ingest the food.

Necroing since I don't want to start another thread.

Question: Can text-only tattoos ever be interesting?  I have a 3 word tattoo I am considering with no graphics but can't really figure out a way to make it worth getting.

Best thing for you to do would be to find a text/font that you want the tattoo done in.  And then print it out at the size you want.  That can be a base for the tattoo, you can then decide if you want to add any flourishes to it.. or ask the tattoo artist for some ideas.

Yesterday an Asian guy rode past me on a bicycle and I noticed he had two large, intricate grey tattoos taking up the entire backs of his calves. An AT-AT on the left leg and an AT-ST on the right.

Of course they can.  Here's the ones on my brother's arms. (Douglass was our Dad, that's his signature he and my sister's got from some old record)

Though with something as short as 3 words you're really going to have to focus on the font and size like Evildrider said.

I think so I have a photo of my brothers which is in ancient greek (he studied ancient greek for a few years so the language choice was not random).

meh it is on a work computer, will edit this with the photo.  I think it looks great.

There's a a few literary/text only tattoo groups on the internet if you want examples.

http://community.livejournal.com/literarytattoos/  has a fair bit of traffic and lots of examples.

I think it's pretty easy to make text based tattoos interesting, but I'm biased since I have two of them. One is just my birth year in roman numerals down my right forearm. The other is a text from a book and is part of a larger piece that makes up a half-sleeve on my upper right arm.

Have you tried the internet? It's made out of millions of people missing the point of everything and then getting angry about it
