How would you like the opportunity to preview and provide your feedback on an exciting new car-based, console MMO racing game? Are you interested in participating in a focus group and voicing your opinions? If so, we would like to hear from you.

Atari will be hosting the focus testing at the offices of Cryptic Studios in Los Gatos, California and we will be having several sessions taking place in the afternoons and evenings during the week of April 26, 2010. Please be aware that this is not a new Cryptic Studios Game.

We will offer a small stipend for your time and also feed you.

If you between the ages of 13 to 34 and are an avid online gamer on both console and PC we would love to hear from you.

If you are interested, please go to http://www.atari.com/focustest/racing-signup

Either way, I'm amused by it since older gamers are a big demographic with money to actually spend.

I agree.  I would totally play an online racing mmo if it were decently made.

Actually, any decent racing MMO will typically require an older audience.  Otherwise, it's more bumpercars than anything else.

I bet that will be the number one requested change after the test.

Judging from other threads, I think the #1 request will be that the game is taken off Cryptic and given to someone else.

Lasers will be at #2.

A racing RPG sounds boring.  But a post-apocalyptic Car Wars-ish game with gangs of looters driving over a hellish landscape looking for rare resources; now that's a game.

AA could have been rolled into a F2P game that might have worked.  They needed to gut the out-of-car experience, but a huge open F2P world might have worked.

AA should've been EVE with Cars.  Make the cars turn-based though, ala DarkWind.
Also, is Blur considered a console racing MMO? errr, rather a persistent driving game?

I'm assuming you're all thinking of old hick nascar racing. That would be made for old people. Since it called for young males, I'm going to guess it's about wigger street drag racing.

I actually imagine a good racing MMO being along the lines of Diddy Kong racing, with a sort of open world area to drive around in and races you can zone into...  I mean, not necessarily with the cutesy graphics and kid stuff, but that sort of structure.

I would have loved it if they managed to make a GTA4+Test Drive+Live For Speed+oblivion amalgation. Driving all over europe/USA/etc in mostly realistic landscapes with excellent physics would have me squeeing with joy.

Well, I can dream.

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing the title was Test Drive Unlimited 2. It's a MOOR.

Massively Open Online Racing, of course.

Q:     Will there be Downloadable Content for Test Drive Unlimited 2?
A:    Beyond the free content updates, Test Drive Unlimited 2 will offer DLC for vehicle packs, clothes packs, furniture packs and much, much more.
Bolded the funny bit. I suddenly had a mental image of the skit when Top Gear modified an old mercedes with furniture inside. Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

I'm desperately hoping they'll go for properly realistic physics, but I'm not holding my breath. Should be worth checking out though.

Believe or not, I've actually been impressed with EA's other offerings like Tiger Woods Online and Battlefield Heroes (though Heroes could have been so much better). For F2P browser-launched games, they aren't bad. You have to watch out though - for Tiger Woods, you can only play certain courses without buying points or being a member, and there isn't a lot of cosmetic customization available without spending money. But for MMO-lite style F2P persistence, they aren't bad. They are certainly better successes than their full-blown MMO packages like WAR.
