My one criticism of the show this season is the way Tim and Rachel, the other marshals have been marginalized. Granted the show is about Raylan but I really liked where those characters were heading after first season and they've been kind of window dressing this season.

The last episode was chock full of Tim, good stuff too.

What happened to Rachel? Is she even in it this season?

She's incredibly pretty.

She's there - she had a bit role as the black help Raylan brought with him when he visited Limehouse at the Holler.

I love the whole discussion they had about how cool Raylans line was to duffy when he threw the bullet at him, i wonder if it really did come from a Johny Carson show.  Oh, and that is twice someone has said something about Quarles hidden gun jamming.

Here is Yost talking about it in a recap of the original episode it was in:

Quote
That awesome end scene, where Raylan drops the bullet on Duffy and says, “The next one’s comin’ faster”: I heard that line was all you.
I don’t know if this is right, but I remember hearing something like that on Johnny Carson. If I remember, it was a comedian or a singer who was dating a girl and found out she was, like, the daughter of a mob boss in Vegas, and the dad came into his dressing room and threw a bullet at him and said, “The next one’s coming a lot faster.” I always loved that line. So that’s how that got into the story. I’ll tell you that moment — throwing a bullet at someone and saying that line — has an impact on the story of the season. You’ll see in a later episode where someone says, “Did you come up with that on your own?” and Raylan will say why he heard that line.

That's right - but I haven't seen her since then.

I wish they'd do more with her and less with Raylan's ex. She seriously drives me up a wall.

It's amazing when a show can put on a setup like the town hall, and they have an actor with the chops of Groggins who can actually pull off the Big Speech.  Loved how they framed Boyd with the flag behind him....  you know he's a self-serving criminal, and still he can talk you right over.

Also nice to see Ava make her season quota of shooting male scumbags with her trusty shotgun.

The performance of the actress playing the canny old mum was incredibly moving at the end of the last episode. I really felt the grief in her performance.... Or is it that all the people who love their mums can really relate to her? Nevertheless, incredible acting IMHO.

The great thing about Justified is that they get really great performances out of their cast - even those in relatively minor roles (especially so). From Devil, the doofus who thought his kidneys were removed, the Bennett brothers from last season and last episode Tanner (the guy on top of the explosives) and Earl (Limehouse's henchman).

I thought it was, but just found out that the actor that played Delroy (hippie-redneck-pimp)?  He was Ethan on Lost, which makes his story about growing up in a commune fucking hilarious.

Yeah that took me by surprise, I was suddenly aware that I actually had a tear in my eye at that point. The acting is superb, and helped by the great script and razor sharp editing. I think good editing can make a huge difference to a TV show, especially one that relies on humour as much as Justified does. Comic timing and all that.

Also, Walton Goggins performance in this is making me want to go back and watch The Shield again.

TV Easter egg: The tiny snippet of a black and white movie shown at the end is from the original 1957 "3:10 to Yuma" based on a short story by Elmore Leonard.

I am loving this season. My prediction is that Limehouse is going to turn out to be, by far, the most dangerous person in the show this season. Quarrels is ruthless but I think Limehouse is the smarter of the two and is likely even smarter than Boyd. I think even though people know it's an act that the 'aw shucks' routine still works to disarm his foes. I wouldn't be surprised if the finale ends up being Raylen having to deal with Limehouse.

Okay, the last two episodes of this season have some huge potential.

- Oceans Eleven, but with Earl (Limehouse LT), Boyd, Dickie and gang?  I'd watch a Hillbilly Eleven movie.
- Quarrels descent into crazy town has been wonderful.  Is he going to play the spoiler or get rolled up into the Hillbillly Eleven?
- Limehouse is fucking canny, and you know he's not going down without a fight.
- The Marshalls are setting up a raid on Limehouse's money stash.
- Raylan is backing into it from the opposite end.
- You still have Detriot...  you don't brink in Micheal Ironside for a one-off appearance, do you?
- You can't spell Wynn Duffy without win!

So many ways to play this.  Anti-climax?  Guy Ritchie style pileup?  Mother of all shootouts?  Remember, many of the players in this seem to have a touch of chronic back-stabbing disorder....  so who knows where Dickie, Wynn, or Quarrels will end up.

Apparently Yost challenged the writers to keep one-upping each other on derogatory ways to describe McDonough.
