I am sorta looking forward to this.

Set entirely on Cybertron, and outside of any continuity, so they're not stuck with the Bayformers look/story.

Cool video is cool.

And now, of course, we'll think back to all the good Transformers games there have been.

I've heard good things from people playing the multiplayer beta thing.

And I'm sure you've all seen it, but I like this commerical.  DRILLING AND MANLINESS

Looks like vapid and mindless transforming fun.  You know, Console Fodder.  Much like Judge Dredd for the PC was.

I may play it.  I do like transforming into a truck and hitting someone with my radiator.

If anyone actually picks this up, or plans to, can you throw me a little info as to how it plays ?

Still interested in it for Inner Child sake, but don't want to waste my time if it's shit.  So far the only complaint from people seems to be that the vehicle modes are fairly unexciting to control.  I would expect the Multiplayer to be the real draw though.

IGN gave it a 9.0 and said the multiplayer was very good as was the single player and mentioned it even has a co-op mode.

Ditto. It looks like fun, but it could so easily not be.

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

I've done the first couple of levels now (co-op with my brother) and a bit of the Escalation mode, and aside from a slightly annoying second chapter boss fight (it's very pattern-based and basically 1 or 2 shots you while you're learning the pattern), it's been pretty fun.  With the ground-based Transformers, it plays sort of like Gears of War + a bit of Halo minus the GoW cover system.  The second campaign level introduced jet-based Transformers, and they're a lot more fun if you're willing to spend a bit of time getting used to switching to jet form to dash between places to hide.  Regardless of which type you're using, you can transform at any time, but the jets make doing so much more rewarding/fun - you can place yourself anywhere on the battlefield almost instantly.  There's also something about going from flying full-tilt and then transforming to drop in the middle of a fight with your space-shotgun that's just great.

If you are or were a fan of the original TV show or the comics, this game was obviously made by people that enjoy the source material - the voice acting is pretty solid so far (though they apparently couldn't get the original Starscream actor), and the writing is very consistent with what fans of the TV show/comics and 1986 movie know.  The character designs retain elements of the G1 character designs (particularly in the heads), while being very much new and fresh looking.  Similarly, the environment design retains the sensibilities of the show as well, recalling the imagery of the source material - there's lots of detail in the technical-looking spires and it all looks blasted to hell.

Bonus:  The starship that the Decepticons are in during the opening cutscene is almost a dead-ringer for the ship they would later chase the Autobots to Earth in.

If you're playing it on 360, I highly recommend the optional full install to HDD - texture pop is much more noticeable when the game has to stream them off the DVD.  Regardless of whether you install it or not, the textures on the console versions are a bit low-res, but the game plays flawlessly, with no crippling issues or major bugs.  On a purely technical level, it's not the best-looking game you'll play this year, but it's far from the worst as well and the actual art design is great.

Looking forward to the multiplayer as soon as I'm done with the co-op, though I have a nagging feeling that the jets will absolutely dominate the game.  There's also the equivalent of a Gears 2-style 'horde mode', though the difficulty there ramps up quite quickly.

If I were BiiF-ing it, I'd say that it's a 'Buy' for Transformers fans, and at least a rental for everyone else.  The campaign levels so far have been about 45 mins or so long, and there's 12 of them in addition to the multiplayer and co-op modes - there's a lot of game here.

Oh fuck yeah. They totally nailed the atmosphere, and there's some cool immersive shit that happens. I was under fire and getting pounded on, then my brother was transformed and launched over me and WHACK WHACK WHACK with his Optimus Axe.

I proclaim that is game does indeed have The Touch

The PC version is quite good Ironwood. We both had some kind of .dll error after installing, but it ran fine after that.

And yes, the first thing I thought of when Starscream showed up, is "I miss Chris Latta".

So far the only complaint from people seems to be that the vehicle modes are fairly unexciting to control.

I've seen this a couple of times tonight. I think vehicle mode rocks. Optimus says "Transform and roll out!" and everyone in the team transforms and you go to turbo mode and your inner 12 year old jumps up and down, high on Cocoa Puffs and violent cartoons.

Yeah, my only complaint is things aren't distinct enough. Autobots, decepticons, ground, crates, rubble, elevators, all look kinda alike. You start to get used to it, but it still takes a moment to decide what you're shooting at.

I love dropping from jet form, spinning 180 degrees in midair while sniping with my null ray, then going back to jet and then rocketing off to another chunk of terrain to hide behind before jumping back out to shoot things and then rocketing off again.  It's less dramatic in the ground vehicle forms, but I don't think I'll ever get tired of jump/transform regardless of which character I'm playing.

Yeah, I picked this up also, and it's a hell of alot of fun, nostalgia aside.  They really did come through with the "make a good game first, make a transformers game second" mantra they were working with.  The online matchmaking server for the ps3 version seemed to take a crap tonight though.  I haven't been able to connect for around an hour now, but I just went back to working on the story mode.  I did however get enough time to play to realize I suck with the scientist, they are WAY squishy.

Are they using GameSpy for matchmaking/online (like a lot of PS3 titles)?  If so, that would mirror my experience with GameSpy on PS3 for a lot of games.  :/

Well, this all seems like good news, except that I have to wait till Friday because of Euro-fagginess.

One of the reviews said that the Scientist was actually kickass in Multiplayer, but learning the combos are almost vital.

How does the controlling on the PC work ?
