Saw this on SA

Quote
CCP is releasing a new expansion called dominion on December 1st that addresses a lot of reasons why you may of stopped playing such as doomsdays ruining all the fun, endless pos shooting and extremely laggy fights. Well, Lag has been fixed! Fleet battles below 500 are lag free, and it now takes around 1200 or so in system before it starts becoming unplayable. Poses are now being taken out of the equation for conquest! No more days and days of shooting poses to take over new systems! Doomsdays have been removed from the game, and transformed instead into a single shot anti-capital weapon, so no more going twenty jumps just to get doomsdayed jumping into a gate.

This for real?

In 16 years I might try the game again at this rate. Props to CCP.

Edit: That was too easy. I apologize.

Edit 2: Ok, not really.

Yeah the server tends to shrug off 1000-person fleet fights now, which is an astonishing achievement from the netcode point of view.  As long as you don't have that 1000-person fight in lowsec, that is.  But in 0.0 it's pretty smooth, as a rule.

What drove me out mainly was POS warfare and my lack of ability to make ISK ratting (at a reasonable pace)

The artists picture of it was pretty much a direct copy of the Beam Cannons from FreeSpace II. I'm actually looking forward to be on the grid when they fire. Note like I'm ever going to be a target for one.

I wonder if it is going to be single target only, or if they have the code capable of making it hit everything inbetween the firing ship and it's intended target.

That would be awesome. Having it wipe out everything in the way.

Single target. Killing a hundred ships with one push of a button turned out to be not fun.

I'll agree when its a brainless AoE, but giving it something like a 10km diameter and making it a beam you had to aim could be pretty fun

This.

Adding the tactical element of picking a target with the intent of maximizing damage to the enemy by playing connect-the-dots to see how many targets you can get in your strait line shot with your bigass beam cannon is at least a bit more interesting then BIG AOE EXPLOSION.

Would also add to the laughs to see how many stupid people in fast ships get themselves vaped by flying through the beam because they weren't paying attention.

They already have collision, shouldn't be too hard to code in some sort of mass to the 'beam' and collision == damage.

They used to have LoS iirc. At least with asteroids/stations and missiles. The issue is that as fights get bigger LOS becomes much too expensive to calculate. When you're looking to push 200+ person battles a lot of the time, LOS would become a massive HOG. Even if it would be "cool"

I think the proposed mechanic is pretty good actually.

Your capital ships can't repel firepower of that magnitude.

Does it still have the 30 minute timer?  If it can arrive, blow up one ship, then leave, that's pretty underwhelming.

I guess I could read up on it but :effort:

i think that the timer is ten minutes at the moment, although they have been playing with it a bit.  But titan guns are now massively boosted as well, and are far more effective against all sorts of targets from smallish ships to capitals.

So can a titan one-shot another titan? Because that would be... interesting.

Not even close.  Titans have been made much tougher (they needed to be), and the weapon only does a bit over 2 million damage or so last I saw the stats.

Too bad. It would be more fun for me (but horrible horrible game design) if they made Titan doomsdays even more powerful, but added something that could one-shot them. It's a one-button battle winner, unless it's all a trap to make you flush your Titan down the toilet.

So do we think they were changed to the point you might actaully see a titan in a fleet battle? (cyno jammed system or something)  It might even not be primary?

Cap pilots will probably start whining pretty soon after the first few battles when, 1 minute into the fight, the six hostile titans and their repping carriers have wiped out 10% of your 60-man dreadfleet and now they're chewing through primaries about as fast as they can lock them with their hugely boosted guns.

Sounds fine to me, though.  Heart

Nah, would need to be a stealth bomber so you could shoot torpedoes.

I was actually training towards those, out of sheer boredom, when I quit. I think I had the skills, but not the experience, to fly heavy and light 'dictors, cov-ops, stealth bombers, and was working on whatever the T2 stuff is that lets you sneak in and drop jump points or whatever they're called. Recon ships?

Still, I'm glad to see they're rethinking the Titan. I know they wanted to avoid the "blob o' ships that kill the node" problem, but I think their solution was pretty shitty for gameplay.

With the usual tweaks required, and a few forgotten things, yeah. We're still early in the new patch to have the feel for all it changed, but in C6Y, ratting still happens, Alliance ops are frequent, and Im still messing with POS, and the roaming gangs into C6Y seem less frequent to me. The system upgrades are still being tested by the swarm, however I have heard firsthand that the mining upgrades spawn Arkonor belts, that take over 10 hours for a 6 man mining gang to clear one rock.....That is serious ISK.
