Can somebody tell me, who has played both, should I get Operation Flashpoint 2, or ARMA2. I want to play a realistic combat simulation like Flashpoint 1, but am hearing mixed on Flashpoint 2 (though now that I think of it, most the gripes come from multilayer). I don't care that much about multi-player, though bonus points if one is better than the other.

OF2 is wretched. ARMA2 is buggy as hell and requires a beast of a computer to run.
If I had to guess, if you're really into the milsim aspect, go with ARMA2 and hope your box runs it. Try the demo, perhaps.
OF2, just avoid it. You're better off getting a Call of Duty game or something, as it's only slightly more "realistic" while also suffering from absolutely abysmal level design. It's not an open world milsim by any stretch of the imagination.

I found Op flash 1 better than ARMA II strangly enough.
ARMA II is good in a "do the mission your own way" kind of way. You do have a lot of freedom, but it's got a worse UI than Eve Online has. The last 2 missions where you command a company and later a Battalion are horrible, I suspect because it's designed for a console.
Up to that point it's pretty good, but it is buggy. 2 of the missions I could not complete and had to cheat to end. The original OF had a lot more involved and you played with a lot more toys. ARAMA II you never get in a tank or plane, and the helo pilots likes to crash into trees a lot.
However, the editior IS very good, I need to download some player made missions.
Multiplayer is rough. There's few servers that have more than 5 people on them. But playing 10-20 people co-op vs the AI can be a lot of fun. Flying in a squadron of Blackhawks with everyone mounted up and someone playing "War, what is it good for" is very nice.
If you havn't played the original Operation Flashpoint, play that. Then play ARAMA II.

Err. What? I agree with everything else that you said, but designed for a console? arma2? That was totally not the impression I got. Now, say that about opflash 2, however, and I'll be on board. In case you do mean arma2, though, I'm curious as to what you're referring to.

Cyno's lit, bridge is up, but one pilot won't be jumping home.
